I guess as a former Roman I have a hard time believing that Contraception is against their beliefs. Catholics overwhelmingly use and support birth control. Just because some guy in a funny hat has a major disconnect with reality doesn't mean he speaks for anyone other than himself. Also, I can see that either side can be taken to an extreme. I actually agree with Lord Carey. I think it is extreme to fire employees that wear normal sized crosses (even under their shirts) but I also think it is extreme to try and deny basic healthcare (which is what contraception is) to women and their families. A hospital or a health issurance provider is not a religious institution even if it is owned and operated by one. If you can't operate it due to your beliefs then go into a business that won't put you in that perdicament. I also would gladly support taxing Religious Organizations of which I am a member because it is the right thing to do. |
