My husband went on a business trip and had the opportunity at the end of it to go on a tour of cathedrals in Europe.

I am left behind to take care of family responsibilities and my job.

I love cathedrals. I'm just a tad bitter!

I am trying not to be annoyed but I am envious. He was "checking in" via Facebook and I clicked through to view photos. The cathedrals are spectacular. They don't build churches like that any more...

Sure helps to have government money to maintain them too.

The tours bring in money.  -Just as it does for mad King Ludwig's fantasy places.

Even with govt. support and tourist $$$$$, the Brit cathedrals have insufficient funds for proper upkeep and repairs.  Some of the major  cathedrals require massive repairs or they will be in danger of collapse.   Natch, Fuzzy periodically importunes TEC for handouts to keep his medieval marvels from imploding --- he then threatens us with "walking apart".

I've noticed that major supermarkets here in the USofA rent out space to Dunkin Donuts, bank branches, podiatrists, jewelery stores, and insurance brokers.  The CoE might wish to consider leasing-for-rent unused space in their Cathedrals' narthexes to the aforementioned income streams.   Massage palors and escort services might be a bit of a grey area enterprise, but with peoples' broadening  sense of the acceptable, who knows?

Or maybe the CoE could just return to the Pre-Reformation Indulgence Racket.   That's what funded their construction in the first place.  Wink
