Ok I had no idea that there was such a place like this and think it is amazing and that we need more of them!

As we have done several times in the past, Monachos.net this summer is launching an on-line fundraising drive to raise money for a worthwhile Orthodox cause. Our aim this year is to raise as much as possible in support of the Saint John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy: one of the few complete Orthodox K-12 and College Preparatory schools in North America, providing, in a completely Orthodox context and environment, one of the finest accredited educations to Orthodox children from kindergarten through to their beginnings at College and University.
About to begin its 17th year of operation, the St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy is one of the longest-running Orthodox schools in the world, and a true gem in the offerings of the Church for the youth and families of her future. All instruction is carried out in English, though students also learn Russian, French, Latin and Greek; and the Academy operates a pan-Orthodox mission, including students and staff from Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Antiochian Orthodox, OCA, Georgian, Serbian, Palestinian and many other Orthodox cultures, jurisdictions and backgrounds. Together they live a life fully orientated around the Orthodox faith, with daily morning prayers and afternoon prayers before the relics of the school's patron, St John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco; a full liturgical and worshipping cycle; and religious instruction combined with such activities as the readings of saints' Lives during meals, children's liturgical choirs, 'field days' to celebrate major feasts, instruction and guidance in fasting and the sacraments, etc. All this, combined with a first-rate classical education that emphasises English, Math, the Sciences and History, together with various other critical elements such as art, music, photography, IT skills, drama, etc. -- in a program accredited for the longest possible tenure in the USA. You are invited to learn a great deal more about the Academy, its life and its mission, by clicking here to visit its web site.
In the present economic climate, small schools across the board are facing unprecedented challenges; but this is especially so in the context of St. John's Academy's mission to Orthodox families, many of whom are of limited financial means. Its aim to keep the cost of tuition low enough that such an Orthodox education is available to anyone, and not just in the reach of the wealthy elite, means that the income raised from tuition hardly matches the actual cost of operating and maintaining a complete school -- including a teaching staff of 15 who come from all over the world to work in such an environment, sacrificing the much higher pay they might command elsewhere out of their devotion to the school's mission and life.
The current economic situation is terrible, and schools like this are engaged in a real struggle to stay alive.
This school needs the help of generous supporters like you! Even if you do not have children who might one day be its potential students, even if you live on the far side of the country or world, the mission of this school is important to you, since it is one of the very few institutions like it in North America, carrying out what we can all consider a critical and vital mission. Every donation helps, so that, by the blessing of God and the prayerful generosity of donors, the school may continue its operation for the year and years ahead.
Our appeal for the St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy aims to raise the largest possible total sum for the school, by soliciting your generous donations from all over the world. Given the large readership of Monachos.net, and the generosity our supporters have shown for causes in the past, we hope it will be a sizeable amount indeed -- a show of material support much needed by the school. Every penny donated will be given directly to the Academy as a lump-sum donation at the end of our appeal, less only the small transaction fee charged by PayPal for the on-line funding system. No money whatsoever will be kept or will in any way go to Monachos.net or any other recipient but the Academy, and a fullly itemised accounting of all donations will be posted in this area at the conclusion of the appeal. Donors may choose to have their names known to the school, whose faculty and students will be grateful to pray for them; or to remain anonymous if so desired. Donations can be made in US dollars, UK pounds Sterling, Euros, or other currencies via PayPal's system. And because the Academy is a registered charitable organization, if you provide your full name and address a receipt can be provided allowing you to write off your contribution on your taxes.
Please consider giving generously to what is a truly worthy cause.
Times are very difficult: but can you sacrifice $50? $100? $500? $1,000? for such a worthy cause in a time when such amounts are desperately needed? The life and legacy of the school thus far in its 16-year history has shown that every dollar raised goes directly toward the welfare of its students -- so you genuinely do have the opportunity to impact and change the life of children in the Orthodox Church, helping ensure that this precious Academy survives the financial depression and continues to be able 'to offer the highest quality K-12 education to the Orthodox Community'.
