Elizabeth (Betty) Plancon
has gone home to our Lord

A Legacy of Love

Betty lived a life of love and service to God, family and community. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, mentor, counselor, teacher, leader, comforter, servant, and saint. She walked among us doing little things with great love that made a difference in so many lives. She had a deep understanding and compassion for those less fortunate.

Betty was a soldier in the Army of Christ. Her outspoken views, her commanding presence, her courage, her perseverance were all the qualities which enabled her to affect change and fight against injustice. She was a woman of prayer and action with a heart of gold.

Betty answered God’s call to youth ministry, training, counseling and directing their lives. This ministry would later become her profession, as high school guidance counselor. As in all her work with youth, she went above and beyond in giving of her time and efforts on their behalf, especially those who seemed to be lost causes. Over the years Betty was awarded numerous citations from elected officials for her work with youth.

Jesus put a second call on her life. This ministry called her to fostering Unity and spiritual growth in the Body of Christ in accord with Jesus’ prayer for future believers: “My prayer for all of them is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you and I are, Father—that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us… All being perfected into One.” (John 17) As president of the Staten Island Conference of Catholic Charismatic Prayer Groups and a member of the Staten Island Council of Churches, Betty worked tirelessly to promote unity among Catholic Charismatic Prayer Groups and all Christian denominations. She organized annual Unity Night Celebrations, Evenings of Praise Under the Stars and Communion Brunches to unite all the charismatic prayers groups as one Body in Christ in praise and fellowship. Over the years she helped organize Life in the Spirit Seminars, day and weekend charismatic retreats at Mount Manresa Retreat House, and participated in various annual Christian Unity celebrations uniting all Christian denominations. But there is much left to do….

Betty, you left us so suddenly; it’s hard to believe we’ll never see that warm smile, those knowing eyes; never hear your voice, your laugh, your stories. We’ll never be touched by the special love, appreciation and encouragement you gave each of us. Betty, you are so loved and the missing has just begun, but we will never forget you and the legacy of love you’ve left behind in each of our hearts. You have been an instrument of God’s love in the many lives you’ve touched.

Thank you Betty, your life has been a model to us of living and loving with the sacrificial, unconditional love of Jesus. Pray for us that we too will hear and follow His call.

Mysty,

What a lovely testimony.

I suppose she was a good friend?

Thank you for sharing, and I'll remember "Betty" in our family rosary tonight.

As an aside - is this board always this inactive?

Hi JJ,

Betty was the leader of the SI Conference of Catholic Charismatic Prayer Groups, who died in an auto accident May 29th.  www.siconference.com/

This board was never very active.  They eliminated the Catholic Prayer board with the last upgrade, so I took this area, and use it mostly for prayer, and seasonal devotions, but any posts are welcome.  I have more readers and lurkers than posters.

Well, I'll come by and say "hi" once-and-awhile.

The debate board is kinda rough and tumble.
