It varies from church to church. Most Methodist churches have the service of Holy Communion once a month. Again, for a fuller understanding of what Methodism believes relative to Holy Communion, please Google "This Holy Mystery." |

One final comment--in most Methodist churches, when receiving the elements, the person passing them out will say, "This is the body of Christ" or "This is the blood of Christ." That's really not consistent with Methodism's understanding of Holy Communion. A better understanding would be to say, "This is the Bread of Life or This is the Manna from Heaven" or "This is the Cup of Blessing." The Bread alone can satisfy our deepest spiritual hunger, and the cup alone can satisfy our deepest spiritual thirst. When I receive the consecrated bread, I say "Feed us Lord." Likewise, when I receive the Cup, I say "Bless us Lord, with all of the blessings of the New Covenant." |
