Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a lot of dissent going on within the Church? I'm just recollecting all the news articles about laity, Priests, and Bishops who are getting in trouble with the Vatican and voicing issues that they have problems with.

Hey Prajna, If people focus on the negative, more times than not, negative things will consume & swallow them up. (I speak from a point of experience on this matter.) I'm not trying to say that we should all turn a blind eye too bad things that happen in the church, but I also think as devout Catholics, we should try to focus on the many good things that our beautifal faith stands for, and at the same time, see what we can do to help fix the problems. I would suggest to any & all that the first way to go about fixing these things is to live an intense life of prayer. it really seems nowadays that the majority of the world would rather live comfartably in a state of denial & sin, and people don't want to be bothered. it seems that many people have forgotten that Jesus commands us to pick up our crosses & follow him every day, if we wish to call Him our Lord, Saviour, & friend. devout Catholics understand that we must give our whole lives, our whole being & everything we have up & follow Jesus. many people have a problem with that nowadays. I think that many are skipping & dancing their merry way down a road to sure destruction & they don't even acknowledge that fact. if you focus on dissent, thats exactly what your going to get.
Hi Prajna. I think that there is tension between progressives and conservatives. Some ulta-conservatives seem to want progressives out of the Church. Some want to get rid of people they don't like. Since our Church is very large and diverse I think it is important that people have respect for each other. When people go to Church it would be good if they could keep their prejudices and hatred at the door.
I was reading this article written by Father Richard Perozich. He put it in his parish bulletin. It was so filled with hate. The guy went on about Barack Obama, Bishop Robinson and Democrats in general. Well at least white, heterosexual Republicans are welcome in his parish. SIGH!

Mareczku
Mareczku,Democrats have long lead the bandwagon for legal Abortions & the slaughter of the most innocent of millions of babies, so if a Priest speaks out against that, I don't see a problem with it. Obama doesen't consider a child a child, until it is out of its mothers womb, if people can't see a problem with that kind of thinking, I feel sorry for them. Elizibeth said that the child in her womb leapt for joy, she didn't say that the fetal tissue in her womb leapt for joy. also isn't one of the Ten Commandments thou shall not kill? wouldn't Abortion be the taking of an innocent life? the speaker of the house & Biden both claim that they are devout Catholics, and they both believe strongly in Abortion, wouldn't you think that deserves a bigger SIGH? a vote for Obama is a vote for Abortion period, if you want to call telling the truth hate filled then so be it, America lives in fifty states of denial & people need to wake up to that fact.

## That text proves nothing at all - it's a ridiculous argument. Revelation speaks of "the four quarters of the earth" - by parity of reasoning, this text should "prove" that the world is flat. On what principle is the exclamation of Elizabeth treated as a scientifically accurate gynaecological pronouncement, & that text in Revelation not taken with equal seriousness as a scientifically accurate utterance on the form of the Earth ?

## Why is abortion such an issue, & the accumulation of arms to be used against non-combatants a non-issue ? Or is bombing Vietnamese civilians with napalm not morally problematic ?
And why is abortion now the sin of sins ? What about offences against the soul, such as destroying the faith of the laity by debauching them ? Abortion might well be described as against body & soul - but how is priestly paedophilia, which debauches & corrupts the laity, any less truly against body & soul ? Yet the Vatican's attitude to the latter seems to be, "business as usual". Why the selectiveness ?

Exactly, I have been scratching my head over that for awhile. The anti-abortion movement within the Church I find a little creepy (Fr. Pavone, anyone?) . This is coming from someone who believes abortion is wrong. I guess my formed conscience regarding abortion issues, though, is different than the average zealot Catholic anti-abortionist.
"I yam what I yam and I yam what I yam that I yam / And I got a lotta muscle and I only gots one eye / And I'll never hurt nobodys and I'll never tell a lie / Top to me bottom and me bottom to me top / That's the way it is 'til the day that I drop, what am I? / I yam what I yam."
