I'm in the UCC because they easily admit that no person's definition of God and His will is the same as another's, and because I believe that it is a mistake to insist that any one human being can perfectly define or understand God perfectly.   I like the strong assertion that religion should drive us to support other human beings in their struggle to live admirably and care well for the planet we inhabit.  I like the strong assertion of the UCC that we should be stewards of the world out of gratitude for the life we've been given.  I think the United Methodist Church is very similar.  Probably,  the two denominations can seem indistinguishable from one church to the next in certain instances of leadership (the pastors of individual churches.)  I like the room for doubt and the freedom to question the UCC affords.

I'm still around, and usually check the UCC board once a day.  I spent a tad of time on the politics boards on B-net defending the UCC as not the "church of Satan" as one right-wing nut job informed me.  I love the UCC's tradition of church suppers, old, beautiful sanctuaries, and the German Reformed heritage.  We still say the Apostle's Creed, in fact.
