What do I like about my church?  I'll speak only of my congregation for now.  I love how I was welcomed.  ....  I walked in and felt at home.  I don't know if I'll feel at home anywhere else.
I feel that way about my church. I was away for several years, then moved to Texas to join my fiance. We went to a few churches, but felt at home right away in the one we joined last year. And now we are moving to Illinois, and I am also worried that I won't find another *real* church home either. I know you can never replicate an experience, and something wonderful, in its own special way, may come along ... but I still feel afraid that I won't find another connection, that I'll wind up going to some church and just be a body in a pew again.

May I suggest then, you who are relocating, that instead of looking for the perfect church, you join one and become the church you are looking for?

The church is not a building or an organization. YOU are the church!
You are unique.
Just like everybody else.

It is difficult to "be the church" when the others I've attended feel cold.  There is so much emphasis on buzz words and "change" becomes the goal instead of worship.

I am responding to some comments about Disciples of Christ Church buildings earlier in this thread.  You definitely should read my blog about Rogers Heights Christian Church.  I point out the issue of the building in the 50's.

I know this thread is old, but it contains a lot of info about great DoC buildings. I am happy to add another one: The First Christian Church in Oklahoma City, OK. I worshipped there when I was deployed to OKC last summer. From the outside, it looks like a combination of a giant egg and a spaceship. In fact, it was like worshipping in the mothership with surround-sound! I so wish I could have sung in there -- the acoustics were something else!

Can't  figure out how to post a photo in this thread, so I'll make it my profile photo for the time being...

I may be going to Indianapolis this Sunday to pick up a table -- any suggestions on a can't-miss church to visit?
