Many of you will find this disturbing while others especially alledged christians  with military background will find nothing wrong with it.

I hear Christians say that the OT doesn't "matter now": but then, I hear Christians say that Jesus said "I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword."  Scads of Wingo-Christians love quoting Leviticus in re: "man shall not lie with man."  Wingoism, as ever, is a multifaceted, contradictory affair.

"Wesley told the early Methodists to gain all they could and save all they could so that they could give all they could. It means that I consider my money to belong to God and I see myself as one of the hungry people who needs to get fed with God’s money. If I really have put all my trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, then nothing I have is really my own anymore."

Don't tell us...tell the Good News Club. They are the ones that left it out of the curriculum.

Hello,

Just for sake of conversation I and my friends and many in the churches I have belonged to have never taught and suggested anything regarding the "OT doesn't matter now". Actually, in many of your posts in the past you teeter-todder on Doubt. And that's not good. Only here on Bnet have I heard this "OT doesn't matter now" stuff, usually from you. Someone polls a story and posts here on the forums and it's supposed to represent all Christians?  Maybe it's your denomination that teaches this "OT doesn't matter now". I have heard some who want to replace Israel with the Church as being more important to Prophesy--because of the NT, but not doing away with the OT. Clarify yourself please, if you may.

First of all, this was an opinion piece, not a news story. Secondly, there is no discussion of genocide, there is a discussion of obediance to G-d.

Assuming any of this is true, then the curriculum needs work. G-d punished Saul for saving a king, like himself, thereby abandoning G-d; and the Amalekites were punished for attacking the Hebrews as they fled Egypt by attacking the elderly and weak.

I would really hope that no one, even an elementary school student, would think that the point of this lesson is that genocide is a good idea. Yes, the curriculum needs a lot of work...but I hate that some people assume that all Christians (and all Christian veterans) are like this...I don't know a single one who actually *would* think this is okay, and I know quite a few of both.

More where that came from...

Like, look at the entire Book of Joshua, folks and for that matter, Deuteronomy  chapter 7 and chapter 20 or Judges 19:1 to 21:25.

Are you afraid that we will shoot all the gays or maybe nuke India because it's a pagan country?

The Church is not Ancient Israel and the US are not bound as a country by Israel's laws.

For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible.

I do not agree they were teaching genocide, I see them teaching the necessity of obeying God. Even so, I think they could have done a better job of that... there are many OT stories that are not appropriate in today's world. As a former Sunday school teacher, I found all kinds of things in Genesis that I would not teach grade school children. Juda and Tamar are just one of many stories I would not use for a Sunday School class.
