On being "YOKED" unequally...
A Christ-following "marriage counselor" hopefully would advise:
Marriage between two Christ-followers should follow the "one flesh" standard.
The priority of the spouse should be second only to the TRI-UNE God who created the union.
Children are the third priority.
Are you truly a "BELIEVER" or just a searcher?
Is she truly a devout "UNBELIEVER" or just a searcher?
These relationships with God should have been determined...
BEFORE marriage and children. They must determined NOW!
Why? There is a warning by Paul...
2 Corinthians 6 (NASB)...don't be unequally "yoked"...living with a dissimilar "ox"
14 (BELIEVERS)...Do not be bound together (in marriage) with unbelievers;
for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness,
or what fellowship has light with darkness?
15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial,
or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols?
For we (BELIEVERS) are the temple of the living God;
just as God said,
" I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM;
AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
17 "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord.
"AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN;
And I will welcome you.
18"And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,"....Says the Lord Almighty.
REALITIES in our society and legal system:
1. young children belong in the PHYSICAL custody of Mom, with limited visitation by Dad who must support them
2. joint LEGAL custody is encouraged
3. the imposition of a "religion" on young children is not allowed, and custody / visitation may be terminated if practiced
4. divorces are liberally granted on the grounds of "incompatability"
If your priorities are right, you may be led to give up in a big way what you love most...family.
