Advent began last Sunday, and in all the shopping frenzy and busyness of the season, we have neglected the more important thing, preparing our hearts to receive our Lord. I am as guilty as anyone about this, and ask your forgiveness.
The Advent season reminds us that what really matters isn't the material "stuff". The season is not about trees and gifts and elaborate decorative displays. It is about recentering ourselves, and remembering just Who all this is about.
We remember the prophets who foretold of the coming Messiah.
We remember the announcement of Gabriel to Mary, and her willing submission to the will of God, that she should be the Mother of our Lord.
We remember Joseph accepting the responsibility to be the step-father of the Son of God.
We remember the tidings of great joy shared, not with the powerful upon their thrones, but with the poor shepherds in the fields.
We remember that there was no room for Him in the Inn. Let there be room for Him in our hearts.
