Haiti was hit by a 7.0 earthquake, killing and injuring thousands. How beautiful it is to see the hand of God still working.

You may think that is an ambigous statement, but I say that because many people will be discouraged by what looks like God turning His head away from Pain and Suffering.

Jesus also suffered and lost his life, but God did not turn away from him in his suffering. It was according to the plan of God and throughthe immolation of sin in the flesh for Christ to suffer death for the merciful Grace of God.

I say merciful because without that we would all be dead and without any hope. None of us are worthy of Mercy or Grace, but thanks be to God, He extends it to some who are willing to accept it

The innocent are not innocent, for all, young and old are under the law of sin and death. The only way you can come to grips with the destruction of this body is to become aware of what are the Plans of God.

The world we live in is not without the worst evil and God can show us the way by strenghtening our "Faith" in times of a great castrophe, such as Haiti.

We are strengthened by knowing that the Plan od God is working toward the end results when there will be no pain and no suffering. We are hereby submitted to the will of God and His workings (which some may not understand) until the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

My heart goes out to all those living in the absence of Christ.

This earthquake in Haiti is the plan of God? Pat Robertson said this morning it was because Haiti had once made a pact with the devil. I simply don't know the reason but I certainly don't believe God would do this for punishment, nor do I believe it was done to draw people to him. God had nothing to do with this!

Yep, it sure takes a merciful God to destroy a city and kill thousands of innocent people.

Although I don't like to respond to threads like this one.  Your response to it is absolutely correct (I felt a need to acknowledge you).  God had/has nothing to do with this.  God Bless you.

Instead of concentrating on the negative or endeavoring to 'second-guess' the reasons for earthly devastation, I find it necessary as a Christian to pray for comfort and strength for those in travail and to thank God for those with the resourses to help all these people.

The OP is utter contemptible nonsense. This is the crap that stains the image of all other Christians.

Pat Robertson has said as much and he has done too much damage w/ his misguided and dangerous brand of theology. His Dominionist views shouldn't be tolerated by any truly loving and compassionate individual.

Nothing about this is Christ-like.

I agree that we should pray for comfort and strength for these poor people and try to help them. This is God at work! However, when I hear someone like Robertson say this was for a particular reason, it does upset me. Also when people say it is God's work when things like this happen, but we aren't supposed to understand it, gets to me too. It is all about Free Will! Things Happen! Those people just  happen to be there because it was the Free Will of their ancestors to live there or because of some other use of Free Will. We make the decisions and people suffer from some of them. God does not cause these kinds of things. It is because of our own doings or because of decisions of those who came before us.

Roman Catholicism is the official religion of Haiti, but voodoo may         be considered the country's national religion. The majority of Haitians         believe in and practice at least some aspects of voodoo. Most voodooists         believe that their religion can coexist with Catholicism. Most         Protestants, however, strongly oppose voodoo.

I would say let the Catholic Church do the helping, since the majority of those people are Catholic and the RCC has plenty of Dough for the needing.

Obama cut Social Security benifits by not allowing a 3% cost of living increase for the elderly who have less than a $1000.00 a month to live on, deducting $1100 a year for medicare and many who have heating bills that cost $300.00 a month, I guess so he could send money and aid to Haiti.

How about those who have no healthcare, no jobs, and homes that have been foreclosed by WEALTHY bankers with the TAX money from US poor people?

Where is the help for Katrina? The Govt still has not completed the dikes needed to shore up New Orleans or rebuild the homes for the millions who were ousted.

So how about the millions of starving children in the USA? Where is their relief? Or do you just like to hide those figures as being selfish?

None-the-less,

My response:

Well, since I believe in a Creator, then I also believe that our Creator did have something to do with this.  Similarly, he had something to do with the "kill or be killed" behavior in the natural world.  If you read Richard Dawkins book called, "The Greatest Show On Earth," you will become aware that all of these uncertainties and gruesome problems were necessary so that evolutionary processes could bring into existence a life form, (us) with the potential to increase it's knowledge and perhaps achieve the ability to avoid extinction of our species and as a result, perhaps avoid extinction for other forms of life also.

We live in an uncertain world and that uncertainty is supposed to motivate us to increase our knowledge.   In this regard, I have started a new religion which I am calling: --- THE RELIGION OF TRUTH.   You can access this religious site in the Discuss Other Beliefs area and then look for the new topic site called --- The Relgion Of Truth.

I will be more than glad to discuss these type of problems as regards the earthquakes and other disasters around the world, in the context of this deeper level of understanding that I am putting forward in the ROT.   You are cordially invited to continue this conversation on that site.  Thank you for reading this submission.

We have nothing to fear except our lack of understanding of fear itself.

Personally I've never received joy out of pain and suffering. It is a shame that we have to suffer. Any of us here on this Earth. However.... I believe that there is more to come for all of us. God is a merciful God. Look at all the aid He is sending. I see a lesson all the catastrophies that have plagued man-womankind since sin entered the world. I cannot say with certainty that we are in the last day's. But if we are..... many will suffer losses. If you are a Christian, the Word of God is clear. We either adhere to the Word of God and escape His wrath, or we turn a blind eye, and suffer the consequenses. God is no different than a parent whom corrects a child. If a child steps out of line..... there are consequences. This does not mean that the parent is not merciful.
