1) The peculuartities of Hebrew/Greek/English languages. Example: Were John's thoughts reflecting Hebrew thoughts or Greek? Why were certain pronouns capitalized in English and certain pronluns used? OR: 2) The purpose of the John's writing. Example: (John 20:31 KJV) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. 3) The details of the message conveyed by John. Example: How many persons are listed in verse one? How many Gods were there in the beginning? What person made all things? How was the word made flesh? What are we suppose to discuss here?
(1 Tim 2:5 KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

duaneg, All those you cited as examples would be permitted when discussing "The Gospel of John" (thread title) because each would be on-topic. Non sequiters such as post 70 are an example of what should not be discussed in ANY thread - beliefs, personal or otherwise, about the Bible in general. Also, personal comments to/about other Beliefnet members (ie., ad hominem), as always, violate the ROC and are subject to deletion. World Citizen, host ~Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas |
