Its been said elsewhere many times that there are supposidly many things in the Koran that could not have been known by a 6th century man (embryology, bees, the big bang etc) . Having looked at them, personally I'm not convinced, but some find them more compeling.
For those that do believe them I've got a couple of questions: 1) Can they name any scientific discovery that arose because of something someone saw in the Koran? 2) Why, if there is the big bang, sex of bees, human embryology etc. in the Koran is there not also anything more useful e.g. how to make antibiotics, microbiology, clean water, immunisation, sterile surgury, anaethestics etc that would have helped relieved much human suffering? |

There are probably no scientific discoveries based on the qur'an. This however does not mean that there is no scientific knowledge in the qur'an which was mentioned before modern science discovered it. For the qur'an only mentions scientific claims but it is not a science book. So it does not break down how one can discover these claims using the scientific method. So without the scientific method of how to discover these claims as well as a lack of technology 1400+ years ago, then naturally, the scientific claims in the qur'an are just that.......claims. It isn't until the technology and know how of today that we can now confirm that the science in the qur'an is true, as proof of its divine origin.

The qur'an is a book of signs. Some inspirational while others are scientific. So the mentioning of things in relation to science are mentioned as a sign for humanity to discover that the qur'an is from Allah and that islam is the true religion. Thus mentioning all scientific information is not necessary, which is why the information of how to make clean water, antibiotics, etc., is not mentioned.
