Hi  :)  I'm new to this site.  I know just a little bit about the signs.  I really only know about compatability withe the signs and the psychological map that astrology gives us.  I'm just now getting into the houses and aspects -- which in the past I found a little too detailed for me.

I am a Sag Sun, Aqua Moon, Leo Ascendent, Sag Merc, Libra Venus and Aqua Mars.

I guess my first question could be -- how common is it for a whole family ( immediate ) to all have the same ascendent?

Thanks!  I'm hoping to look around more and maybe get involved!

I don't know the answer to your question, dharma, but it has me intrigued!  Have you noticed that pattern in your own family?

I know that my siblings and I (there are three of us) all have different ascendants.  I'm not sure about my parents (since I don't know their birth times, and they probably wouldn't either without checking their birth certificates, I haven't been able to figure that out), and since I don't have kids, it is just my family of origin that I'd check.  I guess the question is whether the odds of family members having the same ascendant is greater than that of unrelated people.

Interestingly, my sister and I did our birth charts together once, and found that our ascendants are opposites.  Mine is Capricorn and hers is Cancer.  I don't offhand remember my brother's ascendant, although I've seen his chart, too, and I know it's not either of those (besides my foggy memory saying otherwise, the combination of his sun sign and time of birth means it couldn't be either).  From what I have been able to figure out about other family members, both our parents have Cancer north nodes, and Dad is a double Cancer (sun and moon).  I don't offhand remember what planets the others have in Capricorn, but I think there are some.

And I've recently learned that my best friend also has Cancer ascendant.
Coincidence?  Or not?

I've been looking at my family charts and ther are corelations, My mom had Aries risng 29 degress, I have Venus in Aries rising 26 degress.

There also seems to be a lot of Virgo influence, virgos and virgo risng.

There are definate correlations.

I would be interested in what you discover.

Hi dharmabum,

The ascendant specifically, not that common actually, judging from my own observations.  However, your question touches upon a more general tendency I've noticed from my own studies over the years.  It seems to me to be very common for there to be strong similarities in a number of ways amongst the charts of family members as well as with close relationships (spouses, close friends).  One family might have common ascendants, another might have common moon signs, a third might have one, two or more signs/planets in common, even aspects between common planets/signs strongly similar down to the same degree orb, or (very often) some combination of these.  I don't know if this is always the case, but it certainly seems to be from my own experience.

With Capricorn rising, Cancer rules your 7th house, the house of long term partnerships and relationships.  It is not surprising or uncommon to find that those closest to you have the sign that governs your 7th house strong in their charts.  It's not always manifested in their sun signs, but it is there in their charts somewhere.

Your best friend with Cancer rising would have Capricorn on her 7th house cusp.  She'd naturally have a strong Capricorn influence in those closest to her, such as you. :)

In my own studies I have found some correlations regarding Family Trees also -- although I haven't done much studies on it.

I have a Leo ascendent and all 3 of my sons have Leo ascendent -- believe me -- its quite a very loud household.  It occurred to me one day as I was in the middle of a lot of fun, loud and positive drama -- that we all were trying to be center stage at the same time.  That is how we are.  We don't compete -- we just all find a way to be that center stage -- and some how we are doing it at the same time -- talking over each other -- it is quite hilarious -- but it got me thinking about all that.  All three of my sons have Leo moons as well.  One is Gemini Sun, the other is Aries sun sign -- and the third is a Cancer  (he is the oddball :) -- so he is less ridiculous for the most part -- but strangely enough he was born a month early -- he would have been a Leo sun sign if born on time.  And I have the Sag sun and Aqua moon.  I just thought it was interesting and wondered how often that happens.

Thanks so much for your replies... I hope to get into this forum more.  I just discovered it.  I'm not always online -- but thought I'd really like to talk to people about astrology.

With Gratitude,

Michelle  :)

Interesting:  thinking this one over, it occurs to me that three of the men I've dated, plus one major crush that went nowhere, were all Cancers.  None of them were longterm relationships--this was anywhere from a short fling to dating for a couple of months.  But it's the largest cluster of one sign among the people I've been interested in.

My current one doesn't seem to have any Cancer or fourth house planets (I just checked to confirm that)--and he's the only one I've stayed with longer than a year.  Seven years, in fact; this one is long term!

Cancer is her moon sign, too.  I wonder if it reinforces that.

Wow!  You must be an extremely strong influence in their lives.  The moon sign is reflective of the mother, so your Leo is REALLY showing as far as they see it! :)

LOL!  You're with the wrong guy!  Take back one of the Cancers now!  (Just kidding!)

I'm PMing you some info.  Basically, there are not a lot of his energies literally represented in your 7th house, though certain aspects of his being could potentially fulfill those needs.  More importantly, there is a very strong 8th house and 5th house connection, where the 8th house in particular is deep, lifetime bonded relationships, sexually bonded ones for example.  The 7th is of family, marriage and even long term professional relationships.  If you had a strong 7th connection but not much in the 8th, you could be married to someone who does not share your deepest values and secrets, someone whom you might like a lot and care about, but are not deeply intimate with.  You have the reverse, so you likely feel very connected deep down, and will likely feel such a deep bond for a lifetime, but maybe need to work out how marriage might come about (if that's on the plate)?  Not entirely sure about some of this, as I'm still learning myself, so hope it's helpful. :)

Women in her life tend to have a nurturing and sensitive energy about them (Cancer-like traits).  The Moon especially covers the mother.

Hi there dharma,
Great topic! I've been learning (still am) about astrology for many years, and I've found that there do seem to be relationships in families of zodiac signs, house placements and such. I don't think there's ever been a hard and fast study done on this, but it's been my experience that you do find a relationship somewhere.

For example, my Mom is a Virgo sun, I'm a Virgo rising.

For me, two of my three children have virtually identical charts, though they were born 7 years apart and are opposite sexes. The ascendants are identical, both at 21 Pisces. Also the Moon signs of these two are the same degree, but one is Pisces, the other Capricorn.

As to romantic relationships or friendships, it's been my experience that here too you do find relationships between Sun signs, Moon signs, ASC or something else in the chart. Sometimes two people have a lot in common, other times they have things that compliment each other nicely. My best friend and I both have Scorpio Suns, but the rest of our charts seem to "balance" each other, both water sign Moons.

Looking forward to seeing what others say on this… thanks for asking the question!

Take good care,
Sue
