The ego,

allow me to suggest

that it is our ongoing sketch of ourselves,

that is made up of who we think we are,

and who we think we can be,

we are always erasing and refining it.

In our endeavors to leave out:

who we don't think we are,

don't want to be,

and are afraid to look too closely lest we should find we are,

if we could step back and look through other eyes,

we might find alarmingly present,

despite all our efforts.
