First do not get out of Bed without first thanking Jesus Christ for being God and that He has revealed this to you. I thank God that I am sober and alive in America in a warm bed - everyday. The Lords prayer is the best way to start. Thank HIM for this day that you are healthy and living as free person to worship the one true God of Christianity without persecution.  First make sure you are connected with full gospel church. Do not confuse traditional churches with a personal relationship with Christ. This would be called religion. Religion is to be avoided at all costs. What we are seeking is a very personal relationship with very personal Holy God. God does not do mass emails, or texting for that matter.

Here are some formal things to consider when invoking the Triune God of the Christian Bible,  To be into a presonal relationship.  First there are a couple of requirements. First you must believe that the God of the Bible is the only God and that Jesus Christ is God. And that God in the Holy Spirit is who led you here and that He is actively involved in your life. Some think that God is an outside entity who is disconnected from you. This is a lie. Next you must approach Him with boldness and the knowledge that He desires your very best, BUT know now that your very best may not be what you think it is. God is the issuer of life. We must have humility. We must desire to know without reservation pure truth only as He knows. He asking me to tell you His words "Abide in me" are very important. Understand that we are inthe end times and have been since his ascention of Jesus Christ into heaven at Pentecost. I ask you to Know that these days are evil and that you understand that every moment is vitally important. Pray your own prayers, Believe that He hears your voice and your sincere prayers and know that He knows your needs before you realize what they are.You will be required to place His Will above all of your worldly desires. Use a Holman King James Version of the Holy Bible.  If you are a newer believer, please Research the available Bibles. STAY AWAY away from all versions that are made by the translations of Westcott and Hort. All that are made by this publisher are created by psychic meduims and practicers of witchcraft and are are to be avoided at all costs. NO RSV Bibles or ESV Bibles as they are now called or an newer version of the NIV. They are also to be avoided. To Pray in private, is well honored by God. I personally go to a park and take a walk with my KJV Bible in hand and pray out loud the Words in the Bible. But in a pinch where you are right now is great. Think of praying as a conversation with the most High God. You are to pour your self out to Him w/o reservation. I personally start my day out with reading out-loud the Psalm and Proverb of the day. For instance December 1, so Proverb 1 and Psalm1 - December 2 proverb2 psalm2 - so on and so forth. Every day. The word of God who is Jesus Christ states to never cease praying. we have to work and drive back and forth and live our lives so if you do not cease that is ok for now untill you get into practice of remembering.  I pray for guidance everysingle time I get into my car I pray B4 I enter any car, bus, airplane, or, truck for transportation. Any time and anywhere and for everyone is my motto. When ever some needs me for anything I can supply prayer for their personal benefit I pray for them. I am what others call a Prayer Warrior.

I'm going to be a little less dogmatic in my reply.

The Lord's prayer, which appears in Matthew and I think in Luke, is a good basic format.

Many of the Psalms also are prayers in song form.

If you are not comfortable in the Judeo-Christian idiom, try chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Hare Rama Hare Rama (repeat), which is just saying the (Sanskrit) names of God over and over to focus the mind on the Supreme Lord.

I think the important thing is to let the Master/Mistress of the Universe know that you are listening and interested in his/her will.  Which path calls to you is just a detail.

Hi, the Bible teaches us to pray to the Father. Is is God alone you should pray to and ask whatever it is you need ask it in Jesus'name. It does not say to pray to his mother or saints, or guardian angels. The only guardian angel is the lord Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us to pray to the Father, all other prayers are man's.

Although there are many many prayers out there to all sorts of saints, you turn your back on God if you pray to others. Put your trust in God and depend on him for all your needs because he knows what you need before you ask.  Things happen in our lifes that we don't understand but just keep in mind it is God's will. As time passes you will then understand that some good has come of it later on.

If you ask the Father in Jesus' name is will be given to you, this is what the Bible teaches. So love your God with all your heart and all your strenght and might and he will answer your prayers.

There are other guardians.  Are you not the fallen from the heavens?  Did he not teach his followers to wash the feet of others?  Would they not guard others, after the rooster crowed?

The Son of Man fulfills the will of Adonai, and teaches as he learns, yet his tongue was bound long ago.

Good Morning Bouncybaby,

How do you pray ?  I pray the  rosary every morning.

    Yours-In-Christ

Prayer is very personal . No two people pray exactly alike . In my prayers I offer praise to God . I praise and thank Him for His Son , Jesus . I praise and give thanks for Holy Mother Church .

By your Holy Spirit , gather all who share this one bread and one cup into the one body of Christ , a living sacrifice of praise . (Fourth Eucharistic prayer )

Father , you are holy indeed , and all creation rightly gives you praise

Glory to God in the highest ...we praise you for your glory .

We come to you , Father with praise and thanksgiving through Jesus Christ your Son . Eucharistic Prayer 1

Throughout Christ's time of preaching to the multitudes and teaching his disciples, Christ kept on telling people to believe in, love, and pray to God, the Father.  If Christ was the One who we should pray to, do you think his reply to the Samaritan woman at the well would have been different?  Christ could have just as easily told her to worship Him, the Saviour of all humanity, but He told her that "God is a Spirit, and those that worship God must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth."

So, I choose to pray to God, the Father.

Who do you pray to?

The universe plan and simple. Ain't nothing that you don't already have a direct connection with. Just open up and speak to the universe, ask that you can hear in a way that you understand. Then let go of any expectation that you may have about what that answering might look or sound like.

Prayer to me is an entering into the inner life of  God. It is a sharing in his life . God's greatest revelation to me is the trinity . I was seven years old when I had an experience of the Trinity in my heart . That has never left me . When we know that God is in our life we can then offer it to all . Our words can become prayer , our gestures can also be prayer . The father , the Son and the Holy Spirit living within my heart  what a revelation !

Knowing that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity came to us :

The proof that you are sons is that God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts :the Spirit that cries , "Abba , Father ."(Gal 4:6)

The cry of "Father"within by the Spirit of Jesus is the heart of Christian prayer .

No one can say ,"Jesus is Lord " unless he is under the influence of the Holy Spirit .{ 1 Cor 12:3)

Christian prayer has to be the prayer of the Spirit of Jesus . The Spirit of Jesus that cries out Abba within us .

Lots of time I didn't know how to pray . Knowing scripture is a definite help ;

The Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness . For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly , The Spirit himself expressed our plea in a way that  could never be put into words and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what he means , and that the pleas of the saints expressed by the Spirit are according to the mind of God .(Rom 8:26-27)

Love of God is important . Our love is limited It is good to remember

The love of God has been poured  into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given to us .(Rom 5:5)

Many ways to express our love in prayer ?  I think so . Bowing before the Blessed Sacrament I use to do with reverence . I bow with my head and my heart these days . I no longer have the body I had at thirty years old . In prayer I am free to express myself  knowing that God knows my heart . He still wants us to pray .

I am a Christian gnostic. I also believe in spiritual and religious diversity (in its truest sense).

That in mind, I'm reminded of the Te Ching (paraphrased): There is nothing that is not the Tao.

Who or what do I pray to?

Yes.

Though most of the posts to your question have been used as an opportunity to preach christian beliefs, I tend to respond to the posts of "redfrog, trulycoco and iric". I am a person that believes in the word of many prophets. I don't seek to be right by holding only one belief at this time in my life. To answer your question though, through my times of uncertainty I pray to "the god of my being" and I allow that to be whoever or whatever it is even if it is unknown to me. As far as questions go I want to share something written by R.M. Rilke: "Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked in rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And, the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it live your way to the answer." As you seek answers, truly listen to what speaks to you and you may find your way.
