Hello,

I have two friends swerving in SP now. 1 with the 110th Mountain and another I can not say, sorry.  Women do not belong in combat and do not belong with Rangers or any other Special Forces Group, period. Naval Aviators ok. Back in the day I was all for women flying. Certainly, if they are allowed to join the *Standards must not be lowered. We know the failure rate for men.

Nice article Ken...

Are you saying you believe it's impossible for any woman under any circumstances to meet the physical requirements???  Or does the thought of it just make you uncomfortable?

Hello,

This is *one example where where your question is null and void. In must other situations ie...flying in combat, yes I agree. Not here ever. Doesn't matter if it's "impossible or uncomfortable" to me. This is *off the table...sorry.

It's well within your rights to not share your reasons...but when a person expresses an opinion on a debate forum they shouldn't be surprised when asked to justify that opinion.  If you choose not to, that's certainly your choice.

Hello,

Cesmom...

I understand your frustration. My answer earlier was I believe this should be off the table. If for some silly reason women were to be allowed in Special Forces, the Standards most certainly not be lowered and Ken addressed this in his post. So what's the fall-out rate among men? 70 out of 100? Or 80 out of 100? But with all the Diversity training going on in the Military--it wouldn't surprise me if women were allowed in.

I have to say, I don't think that standards should be lowered in the name of diversity.

I understand that men surpass women in physical strength, but there are also some exceptionally above average women out there.  Look at the strongest women in the world who are benching 500 pounds, for example.  If 20% of men who try can make it, maybe only 1% of women can make it...that being said, I still think they should be allowed to try.

Wow, Ken, I am impressed.

BTW, I agree that women who want to be Rangers need to meet all the criteria met by the men--although maybe I would draw the line at how they urinate.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

Women not being in combat at all is another thing entirely.

Women have been in combat since there was combat--ie, frequently the spoils.

It used to be thought that nursing was too gross and difficult for women, and now it it is primarily a female job.

However, there have been women in combat in all wars.  They were fighting for Russia on the Eastern front, they were fighting for the US colonies and on both sides of the US civil war. They were on British ships during the war against Napolean.

In fact, there is evidence that biologically Count Polaski was biologically female.

I personally would rather be able to fight back than simply taken by the victors

I actually have a copy of "If I Should Perish" which was about WWII nurses.  They were flung into war zones with pretty much zero training wearing men's pants that didn't fit well because nobody bothered to design pants for women.

Your recommendations sounds like a good book--I love the name.  People make a mistake when they underestimate women.

Doonesbury seems to present women in the military in a pretty positive light.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...
