Sherri, if you want to address the Iraq casualty topic, then go to the Iraq War Thread.  Again, we've had extensive discussios of the various inflated casualty counts by both Hopkins and ORB.  It's off topic here.

Again, CPT's moral outrage is all fine and dandy, but is it based more on emotion and propaganda than on fact?

Again, why does CPT think olive trees are more important than Syrian lives?

Mlyons619,

If you want to address the Syria topic, then go to that thread.

CPT has nothing to do with anything happening in Syria.

CPT members have a physical presence that they maintain in the OPT, inside Hebron (it used to be At Tuwani and Hebron). They support peacemaking, not war. They observe human rights abuses and they write about what they see. You cannot get better evidence of what is happening in Palestine then a witness personal account of it, there is no question but that their reports possess credibility and reliability. That last article I provided a link to addressed CPT Joy Ellison and her witnessing the abduction, beating, and torture of a Palestinian man in At Tuwani, near Hebron, and her asking an Israeli soldier why he was tortured.

I choose to support Peacemakers over War Starters any day.

And pray tell, WHY doesn't CPT have anything to do with Syria?

Because their so-called sense of justice is rooted in IGNORANCE and ANTISEMITISM.

There's REAL injustice going on in Syria.

A large number of posts have been removed or edited because they were off the thread topic, or insults. This thread's topic is NOT Syria, or the Iraq War, or what some demented cleric said. It is about a specific event. Stay on topic please.

While I condemn random violence against Arabs and realize that the IDF sometimes acts in a heavyhanded way towards Arabs, I am sick of the mendacious and intelligence-insulting charge of "ethnic cleansing".

Jews living in their homeland is not "ethnic cleansing." International law (and common sense) recognizes our right to live in our ancestral homeland.

Hebron's Jewish centuries-old community was ethnically cleansed (without quotation marks) by Arab pogroms in 1929 and 1936.

When the Jordanian Arabs expelled every single Jew in the "West Bank" that they illegally invaded and occupied - that was ethnic cleansing.

When the Arab countries expelled their Jewish populations, this was ethnic cleansing.

When the PA demands that Judea and Samaria be emptied of Jews - this is enthnic cleansing.

This mendacious charge is just embarassing. It insults our intelligence. It highlights Arab crimes.

Sherri,

I have never had any contact what-so-ever with the CPT activists. However a friend of mine, who is Spanish, a non-Jew and worked for a time in an NGO on the West Bank doing humanitarian work among the Palestinians told me that after long discussions with members of CPT, her impression was that they were unknowledgeable about the conflict and were motivated mostly by traditional Christian antisemitism. Have you met and talked to any members of CPT? If so, what do you think about their motivations?

I was not quite sure what was meant by NGO so Googled it. Two items struck me on the very first page and in this light perhaps we should not take the word of a NGO worker to be speaking from pure motives.

Israeli security forces have arrested Ameer Makhoul, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, and placed him in detention, incommunicado

JNews, 7 May 2010

"Makhoul, a human rights defender and General Director of Ittijah – The Union of Arab Community-Based Associations, a Palestinian-Israeli NGO network holding special consultative status at the UN, has also been barred from leaving Israel.

According to his family, at 3:10am on 6 May, sixteen Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet, Shabac) agents and Israeli police officers raided the family home of Makhoul in Haifa and arrested him."

"Gurgaon, May 4 (IANS) The organizer of NGO 'Suparaana Ka Aangan' was detained and an activist from the NGO was Friday arrested here for raping and molesting several minor girls, police said.

Rachit alias Raju, 20, a care taker of Suparaana Ka Aangan was taken into police custody for allegedly sexually harassing several girls in the age group of 8 to 15 years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Maheshwar Dayal told IANS: "After the confirmation of sexual harassment of minors, we have registered a case against NGO activist Rachit."
