First, in CA not only did the Church of LDS spend millions to spread discrimination in CA but, a group made robo-calls to blacks in CA using clips of Obama speaking that had been cut and spliced together to make it ssem as though Obama supported Prop 8. Second, with NC only 14% of voters voted and of those 67% voted for discrimination. That is not the same as 67% or even most people in NC favoring discrimination. Third, when Obama was running in IL in the primary for the Democratic candidate for US senate he whole-heartdly supported marriage-equality. So his recent endorcement was not exactly new. Just new since his election as POTUS. Fourth, not all blacks are against marriage-equality any more than all Southern white men are prejudice against blacks. Sure, some are...but painting all blacks with the broad-brush of prejudice is misleading and insulting.
Peace!
------ Christian LIES wed Christian HATE......Begot a child....it’s named Prop 8! Supreme Court let it stand.....which means we can vote away the rights of others in our land. Sad as that may be...it hurts all of us.....not just me. |

The Black Community tends to be very socialy conservative in many respects. There is more of a history of black homosexuals not comming out or being "on the down low" than the white or even hispanic community. This is the kind of thing we call a trend or a tendancy and is something I can see changing over the comming years. As more and more black kids come out as gay more members of the black community will support them. This is the way things typically go. The black preachers are unhappy with the idea of same sex marriage? This does not offend me. We tend to think of marriage as a happy thing but the reality marriage is frequently something that disapoints us or we disaprove. We disaprove as a community and as individuals. How many times have you heard of two people getting married and you thought "that is just a bad idea" or "how stupid can they get?". When the black pastors are reflective they can't possibly disaprove of gay marriage as much as they disaprove of all the goofy celebrity marriges? If you want to disaprove or think same sex marriage is a bad idea then - go ahead - knock yourself out and disaprove. I am not really interested in trying to change anyone's oppinion. Just perhaps the way we interpret the law. People are entitled to think what they want. Just this whole marriage equality thing never should have been an issue we vote on, it should have been a supreme court decision a long time ago. |

When "we can vote away the rights of others in our land", that DOES make some people victims - of injustice. The words don't do not 'paint' anyone - they describe the reality that is injustice in America. It is always and only bullies who create victims. When you stop doing that, there won't BE any more vicitms. |
