First, in CA not only did the Church of LDS spend millions to spread discrimination in CA but, a group made robo-calls to blacks in CA using clips of Obama speaking that had been cut and spliced together to make it ssem as though Obama supported Prop 8.

Second, with NC only 14% of voters voted and of those 67% voted for discrimination.  That is not the same as 67% or even most people in NC favoring discrimination.

Third, when Obama was running in IL in the primary for the Democratic candidate for US senate he whole-heartdly supported marriage-equality.  So his recent endorcement was not exactly new.  Just new since his election as POTUS.

Fourth, not all blacks are against marriage-equality any more than all Southern white men are prejudice against blacks.  Sure, some are...but painting all blacks with the broad-brush of prejudice is misleading and insulting.

Peace!
------

Christian LIES wed Christian HATE......Begot a child....it’s named Prop 8!

Supreme Court let it stand.....which means we can vote away the rights of others in our land.

Sad as that may be...it hurts all of us.....not just me.

The Black Community tends to be very socialy conservative in many respects.  There is more of a history of black homosexuals not comming out or being "on the down low" than the white or even hispanic community.  This is the kind of thing we call a trend or a tendancy and is something I can see changing over the comming years.  As more and more black kids come out as gay more members of the black community will support them.  This is the way things typically go.

The black preachers are unhappy with the idea of same sex marriage?  This does not offend me.  We tend to think of marriage as a happy thing but the reality marriage is frequently something that disapoints us or we disaprove.  We disaprove as a community and as individuals.  How many times have you heard of two people getting married and you thought "that is just a bad idea"  or "how stupid can they get?".    When the black pastors are reflective they can't possibly disaprove of gay marriage as much as they disaprove of all the goofy celebrity marriges?   If you want to disaprove or think same sex marriage is a bad idea then - go ahead - knock yourself out and disaprove.

I am not really interested in trying to change anyone's oppinion.  Just perhaps the way we interpret the law.  People are entitled to think what they want.

Just this whole marriage equality thing never should have been an issue we vote on, it should have been a supreme court decision a long time ago.

TENAC:  Is it possible for obama to walk back his embrace of SSM and survive?

He sat on the fence for so long I'm sure his ass hurts.  Let him stay on one side for awhile.

There will be a meeting.

And if those pastors ruled the country, that would matter.

Druac:  The reason it happened in California is because it was bank-rolled by the religious (Mormons mostly) from Utah and took advantage of the ignorant by scaring them into thinking their marriages would change or be affected by allowing gays to marry

Bleeding Kansas evolved into Commercial California.  This is why I favor the banning of all media messages for state elections that don't originate from that state (not just off-property, but also any non-resident shouldn't stick their nose into other states' business ... and I bet they believe in "States' Rights" too...).

TENAC:  If Black or White or any church would refuse to marry ss couples, should they possibly lose their tax exempt status?

I don't think churches should have that status in the first place.

christzen:  I think Romney is at least as likely, if not more likely, to lose support from the hard core religious fundamentalists of the GOP who think he is a cultist  than Obama is to lose the support of black voters.

Yeah.

TENAC:  Marriage has been determined by tradition and practice to be one man and one woman, monogamous, intended for life.

Yes, the founding fathers were really big on Man + Wife + Barkeep's daughter + Female Slave.... :P

You and the other leftist on the board wish to change THAT.  Sorry.

The only way monogamous hetero marriage gets to be traditional is if you ignore just about all of history.

No, it is about, as the letter states, to seek why obama has embraced something they see as without question.....wrong, thus losing their support of him on this issue.

Obama should tell them maybe they should question it.

No, but in order for the lgbt community to become more mainstream, it would by necessity need to have its "marriages" recognized by common churches, both Catholic and Protestant, Jewish and just wait until the glbt community begins to assert their agenda within mosques.

Yay capitalism.  Let the market meet the supply or close up shop.  I don't think it's the government that will order churches to do gay marriages.  They'll start to see the fabulousness of gay weddings, and their REAL God, "Cha-Ching" will tweak doctrine accordingly.

Overwhelming black Americans, in the south particularly are conservative, socially.

As a Southern gal who's met plenty Southern guys, let me say "conservative" has always been incredibly convenient.

So he wants to natiionalize the election further with same sex marriage?  I'm for it.  Lets put abortion on the table was well, see how that turns out for you

I'm kinda hoping, stupidly, I know, that somewhere in the dark depths of American educational systems, someone somewhere learned what a fact is.

Yeah, they took to the attitudes of their former masters rather well, doncha think?

Knock and the door shall open.  It's not my fault if you don't like the decor.

Errrr, no I don't think so and that is a goofy thing to say.  What the hell does former slavery have to do with the fact that the black community is socialy conservative?  Unless you think all conservativism comes from former slaves?  Or is it that black people can only be conservative if their former slave masters were conservative too?  Extrapolating that out to gay friendly slave masters producing gay friendly black folks here in 2012?

Estacia,

When "we can vote away the rights of others in our land", that DOES make some people victims - of injustice.

The words don't do not 'paint' anyone - they describe the reality that is injustice in America.

It is always and only bullies who create victims. When you stop doing that, there won't BE any more vicitms.
