Hot times in the old town ain't over yet.

Thousands of Chicago Public Schools teachers rallied at the Auditorium Theater tonight to loudly voice their displeasure with their salaries and the longer school day that’s being extended district wide next fall.

One of the key targest for the teachers was Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who has pushed the longer school day among other education reforms. His name elicited loud “boos” whenever it was mentioned.

"He's lost touch with reality," said John Thuet, who teaches History at Harper High School. "I feel like we're getting walked on. They’re extending our hours, not giving us raises. And if we don’t stop it now, I don’t know when it will stop."

Heavens [gasp] .. those poor little Union Dears.

A mean annual wage of 62K [for a 9 mo. position; Range 40K to 102K], plus all the perks and benefits of a Union Shop ... and bless their poor little pea pickin' hearts .. the Govenor actually wants them to earn their inflated B.S. salary.

If I were ol Rahm .... I fire everyone of their sorry asses, Ditch the Union, and post their jobs for some of the 8% of the Nation that is unemployed.  I'm sure there are plenty of them that will take those jobs for less than 62K .. and probably work full time year round.

Bodean, do I need to remind you that Rahm Emanuel is a Democrat?

Anyway, whatever that red-eyed greyhound is, if he thinks people are going to work longer hours for the same money, then in the immortal words of Cab Calloway, "Look at this dog, he looks like he's losin his mind."

Really, the guy's insane, with power gone to his head. It happens to a lot of em, and this one's the mayor of Chicago who thinks he's the king of Town.

He can't dictate such stuff -- that's ridiculous. If he wants to negotiate, let him sit down and stop ordering people around.

But if he keeps up like this, he'll be in very hot water in a very short time.

Eventually even liberals will have to bend to the terms.

You will.  When there is no money, there is no money.

CA is in worse shape with all the same problems.

Ultimately public workers should have gotten a clue that there had to be an end to the golden goose and the golden eggs.

But no.

How come do you suppose?

Increasingly, relentlessly, The Already Ultra-Wealthy have got MOST of The $$$, and they're still demanding even MORE ... So of course, there WON'T be enough to fund Public Schools appropriately ...

This Crisis indeed has been under Development for a LONG Time now, reflecting the still accelerating push-push-push for a Return to The Good Old Glory Days of Feudalism ...
