It's pretty easy to start a common-law family if you are straight, and similarly easy to break one up.

I suspect this applies to families that have to adopt, go through surrogacy, or in vitro in general. They face more scrutiny and have to work harder simply to get a child and it's most likely that only those that truly want and are ready (as ready as you can be) to have children will be able to do so using those means.

Any yahoo can have sex and produce a child, but not any yahoo can adopt, afford in vitro, or go through and find a surrogate.

This applies not only to childrearing but also the very act of entering into a civil union.

I suspect many gay couples feel embattled enough with their choices that they probably think them through more thoroughly than do hetero couples who enter into marriage with the full sanction and approval of society, which tends not to care too much about whether they are unfit for a relationship, let alone offspring.

But none of that matters to the religious right...In their minds, the very fact that it isn’t a man and a women makes it inferior, AUTOMATICALLY, regardless of reality, the individuals involved or circumstances.
