I was surprised when no one posted about Syria's firing over the Turkish border yesterday - but maybe I should not have been
In any event it looks as if Assad's Syria is not about to implement the Peace Plan and that things are going to get even worse before they get any better. Not that the humanitarians and human rights advocates around here give a flying fig newton. No sign of Syrian pullback as UN deadline passes Syrian forces attack Homs, village of Marea, human rights activists say. Meanwhile, Turkey accuses Syria of violating border Associated Press . . . The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it saw no signs of large-scale troop pullback Tuesday and that most areas of Syria appeared calm. This is a sharp contrast to heavy attacks by Syrian forces on restive towns in recent days. . . . Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Syria's government "could have been more active and decisive" in implementing the peace plan. He also called for a speedy deployment of international observers - including Russians - in the country. Turkey: Syria violated border Meanwhile, Turkey's prime minister accused Syria of infringing its border and says his country is considering what steps to take in response, including measures "we don't want to think about." Recep Tayyip Erdogan was speaking to reporters during a visit to China on Tuesday, a day after Syrian forces opened fire across the border, killing two people in a refugee camp. . . . full article: www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-42145... |

Fascinating listening to the news on Syria. First you must make sure your ears are wide open. While reporters give us their version of what is gonhg on, you wait for Kofi Annan to come on and say the same things but - he does not** US Saudis and Turkey read the same script. They want Assad out and the war is on the table, tuff xxxx, bad luck for the people who end up in a firing line. What is few thousand more dead? You never hear it discussed how many ordinary people are going to die. Your mind is shifted to one enemy alone, one person, we kill him and we give you the golden age.

Uh-Huh. Of course there's been this persistent rumor that reading 'Pravda' will atrophy one's brain cells, like frontal lobotomy from print..... What has Kofi Annan actually said which was substantially different from the outrage and disgust expressed by Turkey's government after Syrian civilians fleeing the violence were shot by Syrian Army troops of Assad's, right on Turkey's doorstep? The last I read, Annan was ALSO furious with Assad's lies and continued murders of his own civilians. |

Dos, are you perchance FORGETTING that shooting at people across an international border is a classic 'causus belli'??? If the Turks chose to move their entire military against the Syrian Government right now - I do not think there are any grounds for anyone to argue. The Syrian military, acting on orders from the 'duly established' Syrian CinC, has killed people the Turkish Government was protecting. The Syrian Army has violated Turkish sovereignty over Turkish soil. War SHOULD be a last resort - but anyone who'd take Assad's word that it was an 'accident' now, is such a fool and an idiot they shouldn't be allowed out on their own! And you, Dos are evidently suggesting the rest of us should ignore that and allow the Syrians to continue murdering refugees WHY???? |

This article is from March, but it poses an accurate analogy in my opinion, and a disturbing one. syria-serbia-yugoslavia-bosnia-assad-milosevic
