This is the exact same thing my wife and I did, and we figured that when they're old enough to ask the right questions, then they would get the right answers, plus the one who was asked the questions had to answer them. The ages of our three kids when they found out about the basics was 4, 6, and 7. There was another family who were upset that our 4 year old daughter was given that information when she asked how the child got in "there" whereas my wife was pregnant with our son? BTW, I was the one who got the question, and when I gave a vague answer, she kept on asking more questions, and more questions, ... |

Sounds like another example of good parenting...my wife and I did the same with our son.... Kids are much smarter than given credit for being....they know what they are being given the tiptoe-through-the-tulips...... |

Our parents lied to us. They bought into crap that was passed off as information. The best example was the film called "Reefer Madness" The end result was an entire generation that dismissed their parents as uninformed, uneducated, and hypocritical. And once that happened, it was those who had hidden agendas who saw it as open season on the young people of America. We started to question everything from government authority to public policy to family values and patriotism. We saw people with great power abusing that power, all the while telling us one thing while doing another. There were the lies we were told about Vietnam. There was the scandal known as "Watergate" where the president of the United Stated was implicated in a massive cover-up and presidential aids were caught lying to Congress. In short, it was the previous generation, acting out of fear and ignorance, that led to young people seeking out the truth in other places. Not all those places were good. More recently, we have the Iran-Contra Scandal, the Monica Lewinsky Affair, and the non-existent "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Who knows what lies we are being fed these days, from those in power from the right and the left? "Let's not talk about sex. Might lead to someone having sex. Let's keep our kids ignorant, misinformed, and maybe the icky truth with simply go away." So, how that workin' for ya?

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. Albert Einstein You can get anything you want out of life if you will just help enough other people get what they want. A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle

The sex ed I had in high school probably went too far in that they were teaching Sophomores and expected the 'kids' to be mature. We practiced putting condoms on bananas, watched childbirth videos, etc...What they didn't talk about and what should be talked about in every sex ed class is self-respect. They didn't tell the girls that if a boy says he won't love you unless you have sex with him then he doesn't love you and is an ass. They didn't tell the boys that their buddies that were harassing them for not 'doing it' were also not doing it. They didn't stress hard enough that if you get pregnant in high school you likely won't graduate and go to college.
