Just when you though the so called UN Human Rights Council couldn't get more dispicable or more dedicated to ending human riughts wherever they may be found  . . .

Hamas official set to address UN human rights body
MK Hotovely: ‘This is a new record for the world’s anti-Israel lie industry’

Senior Hamas official Ismail al-Ashqar addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva on Monday, calling on Israel to immediately release Hamas members who are being held in Israeli jails.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the event, condemning the UN body for hosting the representative of an organization dedicated to murdering Jews. Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, added: “Only a twisted mind can put Hamas and human rights together.”

. . .

MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) called the UNHRC’s invitation of al-Ashqar a disgrace for an organization that purports to care about human rights.

“This is a new record for the world’s anti-Israel lie industry. Hamas, which is firing missiles at the homes of innocent civilians, is received with open arms by the same group which regularly condemns Israel’s actions,” stated Hotovely.

Totally sick...and another reason the US should not support this UN abomination and farce.

So what SHOULD we call the UN HRC - if we wish to employ truth in advertising, that is?

Move the UN to Paris or Moscow!

It is a cancer on the United States.

For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible.

I don't mind the UN being in New York. I do mind us paying as much as we do for it.

It's irritating to hear someone suggest to throw out the baby with the bathwater. If you can't see anything positive in the UN, it may not per se be the UN that is the reason for this.

The dysfunctionality of the UN starts at its very head, with nations like China, Russia or the USA blocking all important decisions that need to be made. It's an anachronistic organisation, organised to accommodate Cold War power structures that since 30 years are obsolete and in need of overhaul.

The "UNHRC" is much less of a problem than the Security Council.

Still, the peoples and the nations of this planet need an institutionalised context for talking with each other and solving common problems.

I would posit that the only beneficial part of the UN may be the Security Council. The backstop provided by the veto  powers of the "major" powers is the only thing which prevents the wholly irresponsible General Assembly and UN constituent bodies from spinning wildly out of control.   Perhaps there is a secondary benefit to the UN, it exposes the crass and naked racism, sexism, and bigotry of so many countries and peoples. Now, if we could only have some sort of consensus that such crass and naked racism, sexism and bigotry were a bad thing instead of something to be encouraged, which is the current UN position.

Does that mean you now see the Syria stalemate as something positive?

Out of control? "Control" by whom, exactly?

The general assembly has no crucial powers, which is a fundamental good thing that differentiates it from the Security Council.

What would be the problem when the general assembly were "out of control", exactly?

The UN has tried to pass treaties which would do away with the Bill of Rights and they would allow foreign troops on American soil. The UN has got to go.
