It's irritating to hear someone suggest to throw out the baby with the bathwater. If you can't see anything positive in the UN, it may not per se be the UN that is the reason for this.

The dysfunctionality of the UN starts at its very head, with nations like China, Russia or the USA blocking all important decisions that need to be made. It's an anachronistic organisation, organised to accommodate Cold War power structures that since 30 years are obsolete and in need of overhaul.

The "UNHRC" is much less of a problem than the Security Council.

Still, the peoples and the nations of this planet need an institutionalised context for talking with each other and solving common problems.

Out of control? "Control" by whom, exactly?

The general assembly has no crucial powers, which is a fundamental good thing that differentiates it from the Security Council.

What would be the problem when the general assembly were "out of control", exactly?

The UN has tried to pass treaties which would do away with the Bill of Rights and they would allow foreign troops on American soil. The UN has got to go.
