I'm thinking the one percent want the 30,00 drones to protect themselves from the rest of us after they bankrupt the country and shut the government down. I try to be positive.

just kidding,I agree with you 100%

Wouldnt it be cheaper to watch us if we were stuck in one place becuse the roads and bridges are in ruins? The think the rich would prefer the roads & bridges between their mansions and our hovels be destroyed by the drones.

Really now,

The upkeep of the infrastructure is good for business, Drawout. Commerce is the bread and butter of the major corporations and they would stand to lose money if their goods  cannot be shipped or their services are not available.

I think there's two sides to the coin; the worry about US anarchy if empire continues eroding and what is probably the real realson -murderous Mexican gang/drug lord problem.

Searching on page two of google results I find an article from Washington Times which as a source has been used here before.   There are tons of blogs on this but yes mainstream press has not said much that I can find.

Apparently the FAA does not have regulations set up in order to process permits and regulate usage and the 30,000 figure is used in the phrase of the FAA needs to be ready for up to 30,000 by 2020.

Now my take on this is of course another neo con BOONDOGGLE.   I do not see how this country struggling with such a large deficit and a supposed ban on earmarks and congress's supposed disgust with pork barrel projects how the government needing 30,000 or whatever number they eventually build is in the name of SECURITY.    typical neo con business model that is embraced by the right and the left,   how does this stuff get passed anyway.    What is it? are we broke or what?    iow Security my sweet patootie.    cui bono?

The provision in the legislation is the fruit of “a huge push by lawmakers and the defense sector to expand the use of drones” in American airspace, she added

According to some estimates, the commercial drone market in the United States could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars once the FAAclears their use.

The agency projects that 30,000 drones could be in the nation’s skies by 2020.

The legislation would order the FAA, before the end of the year, to expedite the process through which it authorizes the use of drones by federal, state and local police and other agencies. The FAA currently issues certificates, which can cover multiple flights by more than one aircraft in a particular area, on a case-by-case basis.

Boondoggle?  Maybe, but congress is certainly not "disgusted" with pork barrel projects. That is how  they  create  jobs in their districts, however useless  and wasteful.

Unfortunately, that is how the economy works. There is something fundamentally wrong with a society  that has to keep making stuff just to keep people busy, regardless of needs.
