I think the Mexican Government will collapse and the people will flee here to avoid the chaos,(and I really do not blame them, I would run too.)

But the hell of it is that the violence will flood into our Southwestern states and Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix will mirror what is happening in Juarez and Nogales. I pity the folks who live in the Border States.

For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible.

The Old Saying has it that, "A Nation tends to get the kind of Government it deserves ..." and in OUR Case, perhaps we then also get the kind of NEIGHBORS we deserve ... ???

What IS it about our American Way of Life that is so hollow and shallow that so many of our People feel a need to DRUG themselves ... ???

The origin of the sorry state of affairs in Mexico is the demand for drugs in the US.

There is an incredible amount of money involved in the drug trade and gangs compete ferociously for it. Luring young men to join is easy. For a lot of poor young men, joining the gangs is an irresistible oportunity to make good money. The gangs start as drug dealers fighting mostly among themselves for the control of best routes into the US and later expand into other criminal activities, like extortion, kidnapings, prostitution.

The army has joined in the fighting, with money provided by the US, but the Mexican "War on Drugs" is as successful as the US one. The number of deaths are mostly among the gangs themselves fighting for control, but increasingly innocent people are drawn into it.

Drug money buy politicians at every level of society. They already control many towns and their influence goes to the very top of the national government. In some areas, drug money provides the only economical activity. The country is totally corrupted, but it is still a very lovely country.

But we won't, because our neighbors down south provide us with cheap labor that Americans don't want to do. I tried pulling weeds for four days last summer and it nearly killed me; I can't imagine doing the work that those Mexicans do.

I'm a wussy American, I guess, but as long as my kind are around, we'll have to settle for a dysfunctional Mexico and its many emigrants.

What happened ... ???

Here's what happened: thanks to NAFTA, US farmers flooded Mexico with US corn and other products that benefitted from taxpayer subsidization. Corn was the biggy. Mexico does not have these subsidies. So this put a lot of Mexicans out of work, and many of them headed to the US to find work. Others joined up with drug gangs.

The US is benefitting unfairly from NAFTA.

That's just one piece of it. Mexico is also a land with really bad income inequality. The same thing will happen to the US if we continue under the fantasy that rich people deserve to get their taxes cut. They don't. Most of them didn't even earn their millions.

The country has gone to hell in a handbasket.  It really does break my heart...as a former El Pasoan, I long for the good old days, the quiet and pleasant days, when Juarez was safer than most US cities.  I went over there quite a lot, maybe weekly.  This sickens me:

and today my receptionist told me her friends went to Ruidoso New Mexico, to the casino---the Inn of the Mountain Gods...they were told by the front desk that a Mexican drug cartel was vacationing there...to be calm and prudent..and sure enough, there were plenty of weapons to be seen, just out in the open.  It ruined their time there...
