Retired Lieutenant General William G. :Jerry" Boylin has been invited to speak at a West Point prayer breakfast. General Boykin is known for anti-Islamic statements such as the United States should ban mosquesLink 1, Islam should not be a protected by the First AmendmentLink 2, there can be no interfaith dialogue between Muslims and ChristiansLink 3, He has also made comments such as, "George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States. He was appointed by God."Link 4, and that President Obama was using the Health care act to build an army of browshirts loyal only to him.Link 5. There are Muslim cadets at West Point and the last thing they need is to have to listen to an Islamophobic bigot criticize their religion and proselytize for Christianity. Such a prayer breakfast at military institutions are supposed to be non-sectarian, and General Boykin is anything but.
"The genius of the Constitution rests not in any static meaning it might have had in a world that is dead and gone, but in the adaptability of its great principles to cope with current problems and current needs." -- Justice William Brennan: Speech to the Text and Teaching Symposium at Georgetown University,(October 12, 1985)
