And millions of people don't. They prefer lush, well-watered landscapes, and they're going to express that preference whether you like it or not. You'll just have to learn to live with it.

Oh, right, let's all take offense at everything.

Well Ken--you certainly do at anyone who disagrees with YOU.

One uppity easterner makes derogatory statements about it. I'm not going to let insults of my area go unchallenged--and then when challenged it is suddenly something to "get over."

Try saying somethng negative about those supposedly hoighty-toighty schools and the nuns who taught there......and see how that is "gotten over."

Get over it.................A simple choice of word, a bit more truly descriptive than sparse. It was scraggly. Gonna bet you don't have much Irish/Englsih heritage in the main. The Irish and the English love to play with language. It's a gift and it's fun. One of my great joys in life is listening to my five grandchildren, now 15 to 20 play with language. They are a hoot and a holler. And they luv it when I throw in a one-liner. No one wants a dull nana!!!

What do you do for fun?????

This is great fun.................

Big surprise--the west has different vegetation than the east.

You were in the chapparral--which many people find to be quite beautiful.

It is sparse--not "scraggly"--because of the relatively small amount of precipitation.

Some of us were discussing our preferences. I'm especially attuned to the Hudson Valley and the forests of upstate New York and Vermont. That is my heritage. I love New York State history and lore. My sister's f-i-l was the official New York State Historian and he and my father had great conversations.

I didn't particularly enjoy the Rockies, but many do. My other sister's family love to ski the Rockies, but they also ski Vermont.

I've crossed the full Pacific three times but I still prefer the Atlantic, especially the New England coasts. Preferences are just that : preferences.
