US or Europe, all these clever people with millions of dollars in their salary, and they make this mess? And then they turn to the citizens and bring in new laws, taxes... while 'third world countries' seem to manage.

So what happens when the citizens of one of these counties tell the Eurozone 'leaders' to shove it? What happens if the Brits pull out? what happens if the Germans decide that they don't want to pay for their profligate, southern neighbors? Ken

New euro 'empire' plot by Brussels -- European Union chiefs are drawing up plans for a single “Treasury” to oversee tax and spending across the 17 eurozone nations. The proposal, put forward by Herman Van Rompuy, the European Council president, would be the clearest sign yet of a new “United States of Europe” — with Britain left on the sidelines. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europ...

Originally, the euro was supposed to limit Germany's economic power by making it merely one of 17 partners backing a single strong currency. Instead, the Eurozone's weakness has forced Germany to lead, and forced France and others to accept that Berlin is in charge. Soon there will be tougher fiscal rules for governments in Paris, Rome, Madrid and Athens — and they will all need to pass muster in Berlin. www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/...

Serious People Are Starting To Realize That We May Be Looking At World War III
As the experience of the 1930s testified, a prolonged global downturn can have profound political and geopolitical repercussions. In the U.S. and Europe, the downturn has already inspired unsavory, right-wing populist movements.
Europe will soon become unwilling or unable to continue bailing out every country with a debt problem. Meanwhile, the U.S. economy continues to chug along, to the extent it is chugging at all, on the false security offered by a collective distaste for one ratings agency and its poor mathematics.
