"The American commercial news media in 2011 has finally begun to report a little bit about how bad things have gotten since the latest financial crisis struck in 2008, and more people are starting to care about the growing numbers of children and families living in poverty and suffering from hunger and homelessness."

"It’s good that the media is finally doing that. But Americans should know that poverty, hunger and homelessness were big problems before 2008."

"Americans should especially know that this current economic crisis was thirty years in the making, brought on by the failures of an enabling, corrupt, careless, Laizes Faire government that served the interests of the wealthiest few and their corporations, banks and financial institutions, at the expense of the majority of the people (not to mention the infrastructure and the environment)."

"However, the political ideology that enabled them was not created by the people who established the Neo-Conservative movement and Reaganism. The Reaganites merely adopted a very old political-economic ideology formulated by the Hamiltonian Federalists, who even back in the early 1800s claimed they wanted America to be a 'Christian Meritocracy.' And for the last 30 years the Neo-Conservatives and Reaganites have successfully sold that idea."

(That's the beginning of an article titled Poverty: America's Hidden Shame.)
