The French think we are a bunch of barbarians because of the way we are treating french IMF Chief who by now everyone knows is arrested on charges of rape.
www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43059753/ns/world_n... 60% of French think he was set up and plenty of posturing that the US just wanted to "stick it a French guy". What do you think? Have the opposing powers been conspiring against this IMF Chief? Has he been wrongly treated? |

When this first happened, it occurred to me that there are individuals and groups that might want to marginalize him both from as the head of the IMF as well as the probably next President of the Republic of France. However, his reactions and the words of his attorney lead me to believe that this he was not set-up but rather did the deed.
Peace!

Apparently, from News Reports, his Conduct with Women is well-known, the Arrest was made on Basis of PHYSICAL EVIDENCE as well as the Victim's Complaint, and the Judge denied Bail on Basis that the Accused is a "Flight Risk" ... I don't see any Errors as yet ... TRUE ... The Guy isn't receiving SPECIAL or LENIENT Treatment just because he IS Rich, Powerful, Well-connected (and "French") ... He will have his Day in Court ... Where's the Problem ... ??? |

The problem is that over in France, "rich dudes trying to nail their maids" is treated as a matter of everyday life if the comments I've been seeing are anything to go by. Thus, the notion that anyone could regard what took place as illegal is beyond them. |

The victim was apparently an African immigrant, so IMO that makes US posturing seem unlikely.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard was not what I meant...

So far there is no indication that there has been anything improper in the arrest and detention of Mr. Strauss-Kahn. One might complain about his being denied bail, but the fact that he is relatively wealthy and a foreigner makes him something of a flight risk. If the French had any real concerns the French Embassy would be intervening. so far they do not appear to have done so. |

Plus, there's the whole bit with Roman Polanski; once the charges were filed against him, he fled to Europe where he was shielded by his fans and the arts community. Most likely the officials here have learned from that incident and so do not want to risk yet another foreign flight to avoid trial. |

According to the article and what I've seen on the teevee news reports, the "outrage" isn't about the arrest, but the photos and video clips of him handcuffed and unshaven, and in a "perp walk." According to the article, there's a law in France that prohibits publicizing such images, so it would stand to reason that some "over there" would decry what they're seeing from "over here." |
