Ummm ... Maybe the FACT that his own Country isn't on his Side should indicate to Assange that WHAT HE DID -- in Sweden and in his Hacking-Burglary Career -- WAS WRONG ...
A hop and a skip from cruel and inhumane treatment, and charges carrying the death penalty! WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange is right to seek political asylum in Ecuador. He was left with no other choice after the Australian government made clear it would do nothing to prevent his extradition to the United States on espionage charges. His real “crime” is groundbreaking journalism, which has exposed the lies and crimes of governments around the world, especially the US. The Australian government’s "slimy rhetoric" about Assange’s case is contemptible. The government has claimed it knows nothing about US plans to prosecute Assange. Australian diplomatic cables obtained by theSydney Morning Herald in December showed the Australian government knows very well about the US’s “unprecedented” criminal investigation into Assange. The Labor government is prepared to stand by and let the US get hold of Assange without protest. Assange is the first Australian in history forced to seek political asylum in another country. www.greenleft.org.au/node/51428

Oh, YES ... !!! Rich Irony ... !!! Julian Assange is equated to "Winston Smith," re-Writer of Reality, and "WikiLeaks" equates to "The Ministry of Information" in Orwell's "1984" ... VERY appropriate indeed ... LOL ...
Julian wins the Winston Smith Project 2012 Big Brother privacy award. This is "for his exceptional dedication to the promotion of transparency and public disclosure in the interest of civil society and human rights".

I am watching news reportage. Ecuador rejects the death penalty. President Correa says that Ecuador needs to assess the death threat against Julian, and whether he's had due process. Ecuador rejects ideological persecution, he says! If Julian is given to Sweden, he will be detained immediately, the commentator confirms. But he's more worried about removal to the United States, where he's subject to grand jury proceedings! He said that the UK and Sweden slowed down procedures, to allow the United States time to draw up charges against him. And that's for leaking secret US documents. But Ecuador can be made to suffer for accepting the world's top whistleblower! Trade with the United States, and consequently jobs, will suffer immensely. There is more to sheltering Julian, than meets the eye!

Truthdigger of the week. Assange has inspired the hatred of many since he first became internationally known in 2010. Much of that animosity has come from journalists and news organizations that have failed to do what Assange has done so spectacularly in the short time WikiLeaks has been operating: make people and organizations who do bad things in secret think twice about doing them at all, because someone devoted to truth and transparency might expose them. The writers, editors and publishers at Truthdig are not among Assange’s detractors. We honor him for putting himself at great risk to reveal what governments and corporations are up to. Julian Assange is our Truthdigger of the Week. www.truthdig.com/report/item/truthdigger...

Duh ... Julian Assange "went underground" in Sweden rather than talking with The Police then and there, FLED to Great Britain, and following his Arrest there, after posting Bond, he JUMPED Bail ... So ... Yes ... If and when Assange is sent BACK to Sweden, he almost certainly will be immediately arrested and held without Bail ... IF he is ever arrested by U. S. Authorities, indeed, in THAT Case he almost certainly will NOT be granted Bail ... Duh ... But ... It has been Julian Assange who has dragged out this Process ... ONLY - ONLY - ONLY Julian Assange is personally Responsible for the MESS he has created for HIMSELF ... GROW UP, Julian ... !!!

The Government of Ecuador may well NOT want to grant Asylum to an Accused Rapist who Jumps Bail ...
