Now, now.  Cacao beans are grown in many countries, and not just in the Ivory Coast, so no need to jump to panic stations:

If it came right down to it, the U.S. could buy the beans from Mexico, which is a top cacao-growing country as well.

And, of course, we all know that, besides being delicious, chocolate is good for us, having flavonoids which are good for our heart and cardiovascular systems, lower blood pressure, and keep cholesterol down.

Yes, indeed........................I luv chocolate, which I eat in moderation as I age, but it is my fave "food group".

I'm not worried about suppliers, either.

If the chocolate supply line gets disrupted, we can expect a mass conversion of women to the ice cream market. Either that or a mass outpouring of millions of angry women into the streets.

It could be devastating.

Can't say as I know which chocolates are made from the Ivory Coast beans, but as all fine things, coffee, wine, tobacco, etc... where it's grown makes a big difference in the taste. Minerals in the local soils impact the flavor.

I think rioting in the streets is the more likely outcome.  I know, if Mrs. Lib is any indication, that that will be true.

Hell, we've gone to war at least three times for oil, chocolate is much more important than that.

If we ever need to invade another country for its oil, we could train a few million women with guns and bombs, then deprive them of chocolate and ice cream, and set them loose. I'd hate to be on the receiving end.

This news is making me very irritable!  Because of the unreast in the Ivory Coast we are facing a serious chocolate shortage.

Should the US intervene?
