This lonely guy might be one of the few people who has a grasp of saving the planet.

He seems to disapprove of consuming the planet in the name of progress.

Nonself-defensive competition against others (fighting against others) is the root of human evil.
Let's try to overcome humanity's drive to reproduce on this finite planet.
Anarchism + perfect understanding and compassion within the citizenry = utopian socialism.

Our conservative opponents claim that we want to turn the clock back. By abolishing the industrial revolution, they say, we'll impoverish everyone!

I'm quite sure your stance is pretty much opposite of what those conservatives were saying.  Myself, i don't see a problem with being against capitalism using up the planet.  Seems pretty reasonable to conserve the planet.  I find it odd that those folks would call that going backwards since using up the planet is the old way that is destroying our biosphere so fast.

What's a shame is how both of you mischaracterize conservatives.

Then you look at the world and scratch your head, and wonder why the populations are becomming so polarized.

Some people are material conservatives, I'll call it.  They are in favor of conserving resources.  Most conservatives are moral conservatives.  That is the aspect that matters most and sets them apart.  They resist progress in civilization.

When I think of "conservative", I think of in terms of capitalism.  Capitalists strive to move civilization forward by bringing new innovations to the market .. many of which, replace, older, less environmentally safe products.

A semantics question for you, Bo.

In what way, shape, or form does this "conservatism" you sketch "conserve"?

This is no political conservatism - not even by a long shot, Bo.

Conservatism is not political, never has been.  It is way above such.
