Okay... now relate this to American separation of Church and State...

Not terribly surprising in view of Mexico's history. For much of the last hundred years the state has been actively attacking the RCC. Revolutionary governments confiscated church lands and properties and revolutionaries killed priests and nuns. I am somewhat surprised the RCC was foolish enough to try to influence the state and this measure will likely easily pass all steps.

Is this forum explicitly about the church and state in the United States? And given how dead it generally is, should it be? Anyways, I'm glad to see that the government of Mexico is finally starting to throw off the influence of the RCC. I think it's been clear for a long time that having the state and the church sleeping in the same bed makes the former fascist and the latter corrupt. |

How about the case in Ashville, NC in which the Religious Reich wants to get rid of a councilman because he is an atheist and the NC Constitution forbids atheists from holding office. IMO, that case would involve Article VI Paragraphs 2 & 3 of the US Constitution. Is that fair game for this board?
"When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am a friend of its happiness: When these things can be said, then may the country boast its constitution and its government." -- Thomas Paine: The Rights Of Man (1791)
