-- BREAKING --

Thirteen are confirmed dead, including one suspected shooter, and three others are in custody, following a display of violence at the massive Fort Hood military base near Waco, Texas.

All victims and the suspected shooters are U.S. soldiers.

The government has thus far declined to release the names of the victims or the suspects.

The violence was centered near a health care center on the base.

"The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said."

my thoughts and prayers go out to the family's of all involved. I hope we can all put our partisan politics aside for a while and send good thoughts to those whom have lost their lives or have been injured.

The earlier report was wrong; it turns out the shooter is alive and in stable condition and in custody.  The other two suspects have been questioned and released and it looks like Hasan acted alone.

Sean Hannity has continued to play up the fact that the suspected shooter is Muslim.  He has tried to lead each person he has interviewed in an effort somehow make this a real issue.

Michael Savage has ranted and raved all night about the fact he is Muslim.

In both cases, it appears to me that they are ignoring the known facts in an attempt to make this a religious issue.

Peace!

I am at an SRP every week.  We have Muslims coming through, every week.   None has a weapon, none has expressed an opinion that Shariah law will be practiced in West Monroe, Louisiana, and all seem to have had a desire to defend the nation through their individual service, and thus enrich the Constitutional freedoms given us by the Founders.  --  Beyond that,  Hannity and Savage should just shut up, I think.

I continue to think that many of the Faux News/Conservative commentators fall into simplistic, gut-level analyses because they don't have more background in political science, and that, again, means history, economics, political theory, philosophy and critical thinking. That is all I was arguing, and how much money they are making is irrelevant—they are misinforming the public.  Given that, I believe the most popular conservative/Republican pundits are not qualified to discuss something so complex and have no ability to look at things objectively. It's just all “sound and fury, signifying nothing.”  --  And, few of them would know the origins of that last sentence.

Just to play devils advocate.  If the shooter was names Jones and went to ABC Baptist how many on this board would be using this to say See Christians hate other religions?  I have seen way to many on this board jump to an anti-christian rant on far less.

With that said we all should say a prayer, chant, or just in general send remorseful well wishes to all that are involved.  30+, depending on what story you go with, have been killed or hurt in an act of violence that can not be explained with logical thought.

IMO all the news stations from FOX to MSNBC have speny most of the afternoon reporting half truth and speculation all in the name of ratings.

Some of us had to work all day, and so we didn't get a chance to watch all of the stupid "half-truth and speculation" on TV. In fact, I didn't hear about this until I got home from work.

Consider yourself lucky the longer you where unaware of the horrors of the day the longer you had the innocence of the day.  I was home nursing a sick child and was able to tune into adult programing after hours of cartoons and such while she napped and this was on the TV, just so happened to be about the time the first reports aired.  After seeing this Bananas in Pajamas never looked so good.
