Actually, it is a cop who let things get out of control that turned Gates into a "marked" man, and now causes him to have to leave his own home for his own safety. Pretty sad in the land where the Bill of Rights (and not just the 2nd amendment) still holds for all citizens, even the upset ones.
let things get out of control? let - I suppose he should have shot him on sight the minute he started abusing him and calling him a racist? I guess you think the cop should have had that much control over Gates?
I don't think Gates deserves to dies but he did sow the seeds of hatred and racism. Karma is a bitch.

I don't think Crowley's behavior was at all over the top.
Now this Virginia baptism incident looks pretty bad at first take
Do you think the death threats he's (Gates) received are over the top? Here in America where we say we believe "all men are created equal?"
I don't support the death threats to Gates. But I certainly don't support Gates' very abusive behavior either. Gates wanted to abuse and screw over a perfectly good cop - I am not OK with that and I don't care if he is a black man. Being black does not give him carte blanche to be excused for any and all abusive and racist behavior. He is supposed to act better than that. Gates own gross behavior put the negative spotlight on himself, all I can do is wish him personal saftey untill this all blows over.

It has to do with a pattern of over-the-top behavior by police in America. A pattern some refuse to see, and that others live with every day.
If she was indeed assaulting a police officer, then tasing wasn't so over the top, now, was it?
And, if the Crowley situation was so clearly over the top, it would not be necessary for the author of the article to misstate the fact of where Gates was when he was arrested.
C'mon Coach The ONLY IMPORTANT FACT in the Gates kerfuffle is that GATES IS BLACK. Which is the only FACT that rawstory will get correct. This story reminded me of Oakland Ca last year. A black RAPIST( raped a 14 year old girl,I believe) was approached by two officers, the rapist literally blew them away. After a chase ,the rapist was trapped in his Grandmothers house and kille dtwo more officers in the shootout. In the end the rapist was killed ,which initiated protests and marches IN THE RAPISTS FAVOR and CONDEMNING the POLICE for their actions . All the details are somewhat fuzzy for me but ,I know that my outline is fairly close to the events of the day So in making my point that the only fact that matters is Gates is BLACK is SPOT ON The events and facts are over ridden by the fact that Gates iis BLACK and that is the only thing the libs care about

Democrats think the glass is half full. Republicans think the glass is theirs. Libertarians want to break the glass, because they think a conspiracy created it.

Despite rapprochement with the Cambridge police officer who arrested him inside his home for disorderly conduct, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. says that university officials have told him to consider moving in the wake of death threats he’s received since the incident reached the national stage.
I'm sure people will leave him alone once he moves to Roxbury
Responding to a noise complaint in Prince William County, police sought to quell the assembled crowd — who they said were making too much of a racket — by firing a Taser at the child’s grandfather and at the pregnant mother of the baptized child.
The officers said they placed a call to the homeowner, who they said was intoxicated and refused to reduce the volume.
The homeowner, 55, is a church family counselor and bible study teacher. His son, Edgar Rodriguez, claims he was Tasered three times after producing his ID for police. The elder Rodriguez was arrested for public intoxication in his own backyard.
The two say police used excessive force to quiet down “a backyard party.” A home video of the scene shows a relatively tame event.
The pregnant mother of the baptized child was also Tasered in the back after officers averred she was assaulting a police officer, and is now being held separate from her family by Customs and Immigration Enforcement.
Police are allowed to define "disorderly conduct" in any way they see fit, and to treat those who are "disrupting the peace" by any means they see fit. As for the mother of the baptized child, well, if she's an illegal human being, may as well send her to Gitmo (/sarcasm for the sarcasm-challanged... ...two (more) horrendous stories from the home of the free/land of the brave)
