Actually, conservatives can be funny. John McCain's performances at the Al Smith dinner and on SNL were a scream, FOX's "Half-Hour News Hour" was patchy but had some very funny sketches (shame they didn't get longer to work the kinks out). Michelle Bachman is hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

Granted, most of the best modern comedians (at least, the ones who deal with politics) tend to be liberal (Stewert, Colbert, early Ben Elton) but it's anyone's guess as to why. From observation of stuff like Mallard Filmore and the previously mentioned "Half-Hour News Hour", the conservatives sometimes let their political feelings overwhelm the joke which, of course, misses the fundemental rule of comedy (the Rule of Funny: Always go for the laugh and let the rest take care of itself).

Ahem, Ask any Republican on this board and they will say McCain is not a conservative. I made this point a while back about conservatives having no sense of humor and lack of any successfull conservative comedy in the world, but did qualify that by mentioning South Park. One of the guys is a Republican and the other is a libertarian.  There is actually a term used in this country,a South Park Republican. The term describes a small government conservative who is anti social conservatism, basicly a godless conservative with no morals. I actually respect this kind of conservative more than the godless immoral conservatives that pretend to be Christians known as Straussians.

Limbaugh has liberals like you on all the time.   That's what makes the show fun and entertaining.   It's my favorite part.

No. Limbaugh has liberals on who aren't articulate and who can't present an argument well. I could NEVER get past his screener. And if I did lie my way passed the screener and started dribbling your friend Rush like a basketball, and proving him for the clown he is, they'd have me off of there before I could finish the first sentence. Now, true, the vast majority of the Limbaugh audience aren't intelligent enough to know the difference between a reality based position and the swill Rush spews. But he would never take the chance.

The thing I find most irritating about conservatives isn't just that their opinions so rarely have any basis in reality. It's not even their incessant refusal to change those opinions when presented with irrefutable facts and logic. But rather it's their complete bewilderment that anyone else might think they should.

---------------------------------------------------------

There's nothing at all new about the venomous anti-Obama sentiment coming from the right. Its just what happens when an effective and popular Democrat leads the country in a positive direction. Kennedy and Johnson had the John Birch Society. Carter and Clinton had their lunatic detractors. What has changed, however, is that the Birchers and Clinton Death List crowd used to be the extreme fringe and the GOP saw them as an embarrassment. Now the crazies are the top GOP leadership and only a few Republicans are calling for sanity. Why? Because Republicans have no ideas and nothing else to sell.

Nonsense.I listen to Rush and watch Jon Stewart and Colbert. So,what does that say?

I quit listening to Rush during the Bush years. He was not very funny and came off as more of a whiner during those years. He is now hitting the strides he was at during the BC era.Rush does a lot better when he has someone like Obama and Co to make fun of instead of whining about carrying the water for ungrateful pseudo conservatives.

And that I don't take either side seriously and like to see both sides skewered for their own brands of idiocy.Contrary to popular belief around here,it exists in large quantities on both sides.

I wouldn't go that far.

I'm a Liberal Moderate (though as I say again and again, my "liberal" slant when I take these tests comes from my social mores which are rooted in traditions from pre-colonalism... so *shrugs* Quakers (Society of Friends) could also argue this) and usually listen to both sides and make up my mind.

However, I've come to settle on being a Democrat. There's a BIG difference between Parties and "sides". There are Liberal (albight a dying breed) Republicans and Conservative Democrats. SO what "sides" do you speak of?

From what I read of you, you're a Republican Leaning Moderate. (Notice how I left our Liberal or Conservative? :P )

By sides,I mean ideologies, not party affiliations.Liberals and conservatives. And the extremes of both. What you see around here.Liberals who think that all conservatives are  for torturing people for pleasure, conservatives that think all liberals are godless commies,or at least agnostic socialists.

As for me,I am just an independent. When you are against the death penalty and against abortion both, those extremes, along with some others, seem to be too much to  capture under the term centrist. And there is nothing moderate about my views on either one.

Republicans have no sense of humour.

And when they try to even have one, it's like watching your pet dog trying to hold a cup.

Don't believe me, look at how serious they are about their Party staying together. If that ain't comedy... lol.
