'Conscience' rule on abortions may be overturned

The Obama administration wants to clarify a Bush policy that lets healthcare workers deny services because of moral beliefs. By Noam N. Levey February 27, 2009 Reporting from Washington -- Taking another step into the abortion debate, the Obama administration today will move to rescind a controversial rule that allows healthcare workers to deny abortion counseling or other family planning services if doing so would violate their moral beliefs, according to administration officials. The rollback of the so-called conscience rule comes just two months after the Bush administration announced it late last year in one of its final policy initiatives...

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has reported cases, such as that of a Virginia mother of two who became pregnant after she was denied emergency contraception. In Texas, according to the group, a rape victim had her prescription for emergency contraception rejected by a pharmacist. Supporters of the rule say it protects doctors from being forced to prescribe treatments including birth control pills. ...

In other words ... Obama is now going to dictate to people. .. Nice.

I have no problem with a woman making a choice to have an abotion .. but making others perform the abotion should be unconstituional .. if not flat out criminal.

You know you have covered one very controversial issue Abortion? And so what? We are under staffed and we don't have enough facilities for all the millions who have been going without health care? That is the first issue, then fix the medicare first through trial and error state to state. Individual states should be governing over their health care systems! Big brother should not be covering us all ever? they should not ever be allowed to dictate no matter what? Especially the part of the small biz forced to carrying insurance for the employees! No way! There is  drastic need for Nobama to get a shrink for that big piece of meat between those huge ears! He is crazy? We have no jobs, there is not a chance a small biz can afford that? And if he would READ the policies he could see a group plan coverage with everyone giving their part could resolve these problems at a low rate as well? DUH? Moreover this is just another smoke and mirrors routine of these Socialist, Marxist NY Democrats with Nobama? Hidden Agendas! There is no Change, there is nothing these folks are doing special? Come on these are pre-existing problems and they all have been addressed, in the same way before? So where is all this harange about the new policies? There are none! The health bill will not work ever! Individual states need to work at home on their own health care systems! Or what......? this is star trek and we beam in and out of hospitals anywhere? ha ha Where are these facilities going to be? I mean the ones that are needed? How can you service people without the facilities? First of all? And then the staff? DUH? Loads of staff have been laid off, and facilities have been closed! So wake up! Abortion is the least of our problems.

A poll released today says Obama's approval rating has dropped to 49%. Looks like ObamaCare is dead.

Yeah, I agree a Health Care practicioner should not be mandated by the state to perform an abortion - if he or she is opposed to that.  Such a stance might ultimately prove to be a career limiting move (I like to call them CLMs) but it should be their choice to make.

Regardless of the laws going this way or that I would hope that a smart clinic or hospital administrator would be respectful of ethics of the doctors.  No reason to rock the boat if you can avoid it.

So Obama's approval has soared to new heights, eh?

The ABC/Washington Post Poll sure made that statement fall flat!

Poll: Americans Losing Faith in Obama

...President Barack Obama, seen Thursday at a health care forum, faces growing doubts among Americans, according to the results of a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. The survey found that just 49 percent believe he will make the right decisions for the country -- down from 60 percent at the 100-day mark of his presidency...

Oh, geezz...was denied "emergency contraception."  They prevented her from crossing her legs?

If he can get any  kind of HC bill passed - even a watery bill his approval will skyrocket.

Latter there will be another issue that will cause his approval to drop - then the people will love him again - then latter the approval will drop

I think thsi approval drop goes deeper than you think.

Obama and congress(pelosi and reid) are connected closer that any Potus and congress I can remember.

Pelosi and Reid have both trashed the people attending town halls. These are mostly elderly voters who are independant and/or democrats. They also vote in the highest percentages of all groups

The fact that congress has to pass the stimulus FAST to avoid disaster. Then obama did not sign it till 5 days later. Then we discover the money will not be spent until late next year.

Then we have cap and trade that HAD to be passed fast.

Add it auto and market bailouts. Rumor has it that the market bailouts may be as high as 23 trillion.

Then we must pass healthcare before the middle of August. All this falls directly on obamas head.

Most polling shows that he has strong support from democrats but in every poll independants have turned away in huge numbers.  The average is  about 35/40% independant support to 55/65 no support. These are the people that got him elected. And these same people are going to be ALMOST impossible to get back into the obama fold

This is no blip on the radar screen

I think the worst thing about Obama is that he is saddled with a Dem congress.  You would think it would be a strength but it is not.   Fairly or unfairly Pelosi is a reflection on Obama.  I also think he should not have dictated such a early date.

Still I hope he does come up with a usable, sustainable plan that instead of focusing on the poor - focuses on the working and middle class.

the worst thing ,IMHO is Obama preaches bi-partisanship but then he lets the congressional

dems run the show. He never told pelosi and reid to get republicans involved . He has shown zero leadership

I believe that the general public is paying much more attention,at this point ,and they have noticed
