My wife no longer supports the Republican Party. She is now an independent because she believes the Republicans have moved too far to the left. I tend to agree with her.
She's pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-tax cut, pro-business, pro-defense, anti-government spending, pro-small government, and just generally against any government intrusion into our lives. For many years, the Republican party stood for these things.
I can understand why a woman in this day and age would occasionally support a Republican candidate. What I do not understand at all is why a woman in this day and age would support the Republican Party. It makes no sense to me. What is there in the GOP for women?
I'm all ears, ladies. Let me know.
And, for the record, this is a genuine question. I really don't get it. I'd like to understand what women see in Republicanism.
Thank you.
I don't see any issue in the Republican party that's strictly anti-woman, so I'm not sure why you think there's a reason that women should be put off by it unless you are thinking about the abortion issue. If that's the case there's a lot of women who are pro-life and think the Republican party better represents their stance on that issue.

I applaud your wise decision --- the far right radical fringe is EXACTLY the group that's dragging down the GOP. :D The most unconstitutional Constitution Party sounds like a better fit for this particular type..... they want to establish a theocracy, which is completely anti-THETICAL to our Constitution.

The portion of your text I bolded is the dichotomy represented by the far right wing radical fringe.... Those who claim they don't want government to intrude upon their lives, yet they express such a prurient, voyeuristic interest in the personal business of everyone else. What's up with that? Why not address this conflict?
FYI - for the most part, I lean Libertarian --- I too, wish for a limited government - protecting the individual from the tyranny of OTHER individuals and the government is what a government should do. Where I depart from the far right radical fringe element is the tendency of the far right radical fringe to blur the wall of separation between church and state which should be kept high, strong, and invincible. I also don't care for the far right radical fringe who so like to intrude upon the personal decisions of others that don't cause any harm. I hope for the day when they'll become increasingly irrelevant within the realm of establishing our public policy. They do make for great comedy and caricature, however.... :)

No, they don't want to establish a theocracy.

The assumption that the US is founded on Biblical law is not only wishful thinking, but it's a fallacy. Roman Law, English common law, Native American laws are the rock upon which we stand.
Pasting a little text from the Preamble of this most Un-Constitutional of political parties below. -----
" The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries. The Constitution of these United States provides that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." The Constitution Party supports the original intent of this language. Therefore, the Constitution Party calls on all those who love liberty and value their inherent rights to join with us in the pursuit of these goals and in the restoration of these founding principles. The U.S. Constitution established a Republic rooted in Biblical law, administered by representatives who are Constitutionally elected by the citizens. In such a Republic all Life, Liberty and Property are protected because law rules."

Tsk tsk, WE... no need for the emo, OK? All one need do is read the news to be informed on these matters.
The extreme right wing radical fringe has a very... voyeuristic interest in what happens behind the bedroom doors of consenting adults.... Once upon a time, interracial marriage was not legal because of this kind of thinking. Forward to now..... even now, the radical right fringe demonize an entire group of people based upon their sexual preference.
If the extreme right radical fringe had its way, they'd force all public schools to teach biblical beliefs in science class. I've no objection to creation myths being taught in philosophy, literature or comparative religion, but science?
The extreme right radical fringe would force schools into teaching abstinence only programs, rather than teach about both abstinence AND contraceptives. This is a very short list, but hopefully this makes my point. No voices in my head needed.... :)

Huh..... not what I said. It's very interesting which group finds the separation of Church and State so....... threatening. very Un-Constitutional.
The very separation of Church and State protects the religious freedoms of all of us. Including YOU, and me...... Seems like the radical right fringe is threatened by this very protection.... SOME within the radical right fringe would like to see everyone who ISN'T a Christian sit down and shut up.

Heya just, I apologize for my part in an argument, but didn't wish to perpetuate a myth by letting it stand unanswered. If my response was inappropriate, I'll understand if it needs to be vanquished!
It really is a tough line to follow --- people will disagree on matters of faith and public policy. So, at what point does disagreement turn into debate? :)

You should go out and meet some Republican women in real life rather than trying to find them on message boards. These women aren't cardboard cutout stereotypes. You'll find they are intelligent and strong people who are completely capable in the various areas of life that demand hard work and struggle. Just like lots of others.
You may have to go some places you don't usually go to find them and speak with them about this stuff, but that may do you some good too.

LOL - I know. I asked those same questions when I took this board. I guess it is up to me and if I see things getting really contentious, I will call a halt.

Too far to the *left*?!
I'm sorry, but even our "Liberals" (here in the US) are considered "Right Wing" by the rest of the civilized world. It's time we caught up.
