The law was always a tool for protecting the property of the rich.  Only when military power was vested in a middle class that was necessary to the existence of the state were concessions made in those nations that chose evolution.  Those who tried to continue without such concessions faced revolution, as the law cannot be retained by those who do not command the force to defend it.

The biggest and most successful lie of any age has always been "One man can't make a difference".  Whenever and wherever the folk believe this, they stop forcing their leaders to be accountable, and are promptly sold to the Party,  church, the corporation, or whatever slaver-de-jour is buying.

There are few peoples on earth that do not dishonour themselves at the polls with an apathy that mocks the blood sweat and tears that won them the vote.  The US is so NOT alone in this.

Well as it stands, the Cons are not going to face an election in the foreseeable future. Its neat from a historic perspective, because every other time in the past where the Cons had a minority, the Liberals tended to win the next election. First time it hasn't gone that way.
