In 2004, Beliefnet introduced the Twelve Tribes of American Politics to demonstrate how the religious groups that factor in American political decision-making are a great deal more complicated than simply a division between the Religious Right and the Religious Left. Using data from the Fourth National Survey on Religion and Politics, Beliefnet defined the religious groupings that make up our political landscape.

The Beliefnet article, by John Green, Dan Gilgoff and Steven Waldman, has now been updated for the 2008 election.

You can read it here at:

So, what political tribe do YOU belong to?  You may weigh in on one of the threads, OR, you can create a new tribe for yourself if you feel you don't fit into any tribe at all.

I'm curious why is it so hard to find this location? Perhaps my blindness is showing ~ but to these old eyes you don't appear to be listed on the main forums page... It's like one must know you exist before you can be found...

No you can't, but you can read, The Twelve Tribes of American Politics in the 2008 Election, here. If you click fast enough, otherwise Beliefnet staff will move this page again...

My vision is a little bit different from this twelve tribe concept. I have never supported any kind of religious theory in politics. But as you have mentioned this twelve tribe Its pretty researched and informative.
