but ultimately, FO, and you have made this quite clear, you are not in favor of Israel as a Jewish homeland...and I suspect neither is Alex, and certainly not Sherri.  Wgal and others on the left have made it clear that they are for withdrawal of US aid to Israel, US support---

all of which are not only anti-Israeli sentiments but fall directly in line with statements of all other groups who hate Israel and fervently strive or wish to see it abolished---all other anti-Zionists.

The real problem is philosophical:

Is everybody connected to wherever their forbearers came from?
Do they retain a right to occupy that land now?

Realize that your philosophical support for Zionism means that every non-red American should get back to wherever his/her forbearers came here from and legally occupy that land, throwing the present inhabitants into concentration camps and keeping them poor and poorly fed for the next several generations.
Any remaining here would, of course, be consigned to concentration camps run by and for the native Americans.

Further, didn't Abraham and his descendants come from Iraq?
Why isn't that the Jewish homeland?
How far back in time do we go to determine one's "homeland"?

Sure, they have a right to the land because their ancestors invaded it and killed the people who lived there long ago.  Just as the Mongols have a right to most of Europe.  Just as the US military feels it has a right to Iraq.

I'm not against Israel; I'm against brutal invaders dominating the lives of others.
I do not support the right of the British to retake the USA.

JohnDavid,

We Israelis have the right to the land because we have been able to hold onto the land against all others who wanted it. That may not be morally elegant but that is the way the world works. And if you think that it works on some other basis go talk to the Biafrans, the Kurds, the Berbers and numerous others who fit your philosophical qualifications for being the rightful property owners. The issue is not philosophical but political and, if by the time the world ends its dependence on oil as a cheap energy source, the Palestinians haven't managed to compromise and establish their state, you will be able to speak to them as well.
