In my biased ignorant opinion, a major problem in the Middle east is with a “Western” Israel. Jews, Moslems, Christians, Copts, lived in the area around Palestine from 70 C.E. until the 180o’s in relative co pertain. In that area In the late 19th century a Austrian Hungarian Jew founded the Zionist movement and wanted to restore the Jewish Homeland. When Israel’s in Established in 1948 Ethnic Europeans and Americans –Religious Jews migrated and populated the new nation. The indigenous Jews, a small portion of the population, were Middle Eastern in culture and thought. The Islamic people could accept Middle Eastern Jews because they had a common heritage. The German, Austrian, Polish, Russian, and American Jews did to share those customs and heritage. Russia is a European country, particularly culturally, philosophically and politically. Israel and for a small part Lebanon are culturally close to Europe. Lebanon for a couple millenniums has been a trading partner with the Mediterranean area of Europe. I think that part of the difficulty is the clash between European and Middle Eastern culture. The support of American for Israel adds to the clash. The US supports Israel because of the cultural ties, the large number of American emigrants to Israel, and because of the Christian premillenial thought about the “Holy Land”.

Fodaoson and Teilhard are both correct.
Israel is a western country in the midst of middle eastern/islamic culture, and the two are not compatible. That western civilization is in every way superior in terms of economics, human rights, industry, science, and gender equality just makes things worse, because the Arabs closer to Israel cannot avoid seeing a society far advanced to their own, and, worse again, that their's, lacking major cultural change, has no chance of competing, much less catching up. I have no idea how to solve this problem. Ken

Yup.
The Palestinian live in squalor - and the Israelis turned the desert into a garden. Been there. Have compared the two areas. The difference is that significant. And it's all the same land. No reason why the Palestinians can't have a garden either - their way isn't working tho. Obviously the Israeli way is. That why they oughta quit fighting and start joining in. Of course they can keep doing their dumb ole' way cuz there's more of 'em, right? Of course what that means is the emergency food aid shipments have to be bigger is all... ;)
