More evidence of the military-industrial complex conspiracy to loot the USTreasury with dumb, unnecessary wars:

www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/26/iraq-w...

"WASHINGTON -- With just over three months until the last U.S. troops are currently due to leave Iraq, the Department of Defense is engaged in a mad dash to give away things that cost U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars to buy and build.

"The giveaways include enormous, elaborate military bases and vast amounts of military equipment that will be turned over to the Iraqis, mostly just to save the expense of bringing it home.

'"It's all sunk costs," said retired Army Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, who oversaw the training of Iraqi soldiers from 2003 to 2004. "It's money that we spent and we're not going to recoup."'

No we don't need roads/schools/jobs at home; just throw $$billions into the sands of the MidEast so that the international oil corporations can make excessive profits from forced contracts with US-military installed puppet governments.  What a treasonous waste.

Talk to the politicians who ORDERED this be done, johndavid23, and  who KNEW that, sooner or later, it would be abandoned.

We've left intact bases in Vietnam, in the Philippines, in Somalia, and now in Iraq.

Troops go where their ordered, and build what their ordered, and politicians give, or more often, throw it away.

If you have a problem with the waste - and you SHOULD have a problem with the waste - don't blame the military.  You need to take it to the politicians responsible...

Actually there were and are a lot of US military ordering this waste, that's why they call it "orders".  Are you telling us that the Pentagon has no military services working and planning there?  Are you implying that those who DO are not responsible for the waste and illegality of what they do?

If we get ordered to a location, then we go.  We're obligated to secure our people and equipment and that means bases.  Material for those bases was requested by the Executive and funded by Congress.  The cost of leaving those bases were factored in by the Obama Administration.

"We"???

Actually, it was Bush/Cheney/Rummy/et al who sold this vile war as a three day excursion to liberate the Iraqis from Saddam.  The foolish taxpayers who bought their lies for several $$trillion and the foolish children who signed up to die for their oil greed have every right and duty to be upset at the waste of it all.

Yes, WE.  Me and my fellow veterans, who you clearly do not understand and revile in your ignorance.  Again, your questions should be addressed to the CURERENT Ptresident and the CURRENT Congress, as it is they who are running the show in Iraq now.

Ah, mlyons, you keep insisting that these wars are a conspiracy of Obama&Congress, as someone probably told you forty years ago it worked;  however O&C appear to be unable to run anything.  It appears much more plausible that the MIC - military-industrial complex, which now finances and runs most political campaigns secretly (rather than transparently) is running this vast wastage of our nation we call eternal war.

Your trite interpretations of my statements and the facts which have been acknowledged by everyone from past Presidents to journalists, analysts, professors and members of the US military and which can be easily seen in the US budget, all these denials of reality on your part are not appreciated, nor funny, as people die of both hunger and bombings every day.
