Dear All,

Welcome to your favorite verses thread! This thread is for anyone of any faith to share their personally most gripping verses from their respective holy scriptures (or from each other's). The verses can be short, or they can be long. They can deal with sublime spiritual themes or more practical and moral matters. Please share whatever has greatly touched you of late, or in the past. The only rule is: one passage or verse per post. The only exception to this rule is this opening post (self-indulgent, I know!) where I shall share a few personal favorites from several different faiths. Just to offer an example.

With kind regards,

LilWabbit

53. A little sand | has a little sea,
And small are the minds of men;
Though all men are not | equal in wisdom,
Yet half-wise only are all.

Yesterday, in America, 100 million gun owners did nothing.

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course lie all the verities
and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of achievement,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness
And tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn.

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. Marcus Aurelius

For one who sees me everywhere and sees everything in me, I am never lost, nor is he ever lost to me.

If anyone presumes to describe God,

ਤਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੨੬॥

he shall be known as the greatest fool of fools!

(Guru Nanak, Guru Granth Sahib, 26)

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.
Marcus Aurelius

O Gargi, he who leaves this world without learning about akSara (the infallible Supreme Lord) is a krpana (miser). Brahmana is one who learns about the Supreme. (Brhad-aranyaka Upanisad 3.8.10)
