Oh, I always thought Sherlock Holmes was a bit creepy himself....... but obviously not near as dark as the evil Professor.

You haven't watch Jeremy Brett play Holmes have you? He is superb, and if you watch enough he softens the character to a real human being. Of course I knew him, so I may be bias.

It is his birthday today :)

You knew Jeremy Brett? He was splendid actor but a very unhappy man.

Yes were were friends, he was very dear to me.  He was one of the loveliest people I have ever known.  He did have unhappiness, but he was a warm, loving, caring man. I was very blessed to have known him.

I actually spoke with him on the phone, a few days before he died. That was a terrible shock.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side. Aristotle

Jeremy Brett!

His was, for me, the quintessential Sherlock Holmes.

I bought the whole series on DVD some years ago when it was first released and I review them all at least once a year.

Splendid.

My ideal film would have been Jeremy Brett portraying Sir Richard Francis Burton.
