«Professor Hickie, one of Australia's top mental health researchers, was speaking at the National Press Club as part of the Canberra Business Council's Canberra Times business series.

He said it made more financial sense to support employees and boost their mental wellbeing than to cope with absenteeism, mental illness and poor performance.

''The productivity costs to Australia are estimated at $10billion to $15billion a year.»

Hello -

Four years ago I left a nationally known company for a smaller privately held company due to the stress, lack of employee support and overall cut throat, do what it takes attitude.  After nearly four great and very sucessful years with my new company, two members from my old company have been hired and have brought their severe type of leadership with them.  While upper management sees these two men for what they are, nothing has happened to slow down the pace of their rampage.  I am becoming deeply concerned with how things are begining to manifest themselves.  On the flipside, I feel extreme guilt because I have a job when many others do not.  But to say that this situation is becoming unbearable to myself and others would be an understatement.

I feel guilty praying for relief in this situation because again I have a job.  But I truly do not know how long I can hold out working with this type of hostile work environment.
