Shalom Everyone, (can't say "all" or you get the wrong idea)

Anyway, thanks for the complements, an ego bust is always welcome to bust one up. I've been battling the computer all day. I think I know the problem but don't know how to fix it just yet. I think it is a power drain on the plug under the desk and that will be a major fix that I can't do right now.

I was out in the yard despite the cold today. I had to rescue an ailing rose before I lose it. I've lost at least four major ones since this draught began two years ago. I've not had a major vegetable garden in two years because of it too. I can keep the tomatoes going and some peppers, but beans would dry up as would leafy stuff. I can grow potatoes in just about anything now, and I've got some broccoli plants that are going on a year old now still producing same for some cabbages. My son and I are going to move a large swing set/playground and move the garden this winter to an area that gets better water retention. I know water retention sounds bad, but in this case it is good. I've got a few radishes and it's time to dig up the horseradish and have at it.

I love the sunsets this time of year and I can see it out the office window. Keep your chins up!

Cap, I am fairly certain you have a printer. I don't know the web site or sites but there are some out there that have coupons on them that you can print out. I don't know if all stores take them. I don't have a printer or I'd be snagging all of them I could.

Peter, having a small indoor garden in a great idea! I do that. I grow salad greens, some tomatoes, radishes, and other things in great big pots on the porch. It is screened in now and plastic-ed too. I don't grow much but it is nice to have simple salad makings at the house.  If anyone has an area that they can use plastic in or over that makes an excellent indoor greenhouse. If you have big pots or can score some then those make excellent places to grow an indoor garden in the winter. It does require some dollars for the initial outlay of soil. I have to work more potting soil in once a year. I also use the peelings and such from my veggies to make compost. That doesn't require a lot of room and it sure helps with an indoor garden. I use a combination of compost and potting soil to replenish mine.

Cap, I am assuming that you use plastic on your windows and the doors you don't use? I do. The house looks strange but it does help with some of the windows. Can you get help through a local agency if you need better insulation? Many local agencies will help you get that done at little or no cost. I know you burn wood. Our utility company will also give us insulated blankets for hot water heaters. Have you done that?

Just a few more thoughts.

Shalom Itty,

Thanks, I'll see what I can do with some space around here. I'm thinking about rigging up something for sprouts like quinoa or beans.

Can you grow stuff like vegs in the winter indoor? I would like to try that.
And yes I have a cheap laser printer and it works well I will look for coupons. I was looking for coupons for pet food that I can't find though I am puzzled

sigh,,,I wish I could grow things,,,but frankly, I kill anything green and growing,,,,,it just wilts the minute it sees me,,,,,

I'm surprised I managed to raise three children to adulthood,,,,,but they come with their own sounding devices,,,,,,

I love indoor houseplants though,,,,,,but I kill them!!! I either forget about them and they die,,,or I water them too much and the roots rot,,,,,,I am so untalented with that stuff:(  I'm thinking about those aqua globes though,,,,,they tell me they work and you can get them 2 for 10.00 at Walmart,,,,,,,,

(((((Holly))))) I am pretty good as long as the plant is visible. I have managed to keep a Norfolk Pine alive since last winter. You have no idea how surprised I am.

Geraniums work well indoors to And they are almost indestructible in my experience.
I grow my own common sage  (and other herbs) so I can have the dried leaves for smudging. If I water it it grows great.    does not seem to mind a little over watering. And you can eat it too :D

Yes, Cap, you can. You need a window with light and the pot or pots you use will be smaller. But you can do it.

Have you tried some of the major pet food companies? I'll see if I can scare some sites up for you.

Holly also has a point. You can do this with herbs too. Saves a bundle on money spent for seasonings. I use a LOT of seasonings. The darned things are expensive.

Ed to ADD:

Cap try this site. They have printable coupons for cat and dog food.
